Its Turkey Day in the USA... what's the biggest turkey of an instrument or piece of gear you've ever owned?!

Hey Jim! My Hannah Montana guitar was a real turd. I spent more money trying to make it playable than the guitar cost with no luck. I hold on to my gear, but ultimatimately gave that turkey away. Cheers! ~m

EquipBoard Enhancements

I wasn't able to find a thread regarding EB updates and enhancement, but I just realized that EB has integrated with Reverb and GuitarCenter on the wishlist.

Calling it out as a nice touch.

Nice work y'all!

Hah! Who hasn't heard the "you already have X!"? I actually give that GF of yours props for setting clear boundaries that likely place emphasis on your talent and interests. Funny thing is, I interpreted that demand not as a criticism of talent, rather supporting your passions. (Its easy to assume not being there.) Added bonus, learning new shit is the best jam of all regardless the context. Regardless, good looking guitars, dots and all.

Counts in my book! Those are good looking!

Do I dare ask if that set of keys was a gift from an incredibly thoughtful someone? Its a spectacular addition either way.

The June-60 was a stellar suprise this year, but I tackled a theme of a "White Christmas" with fervor this year resulting in some 'highly personalized' bling, aka self-gifting.

(If i could figure out how to post an image... i would. but for now... I fail.)

I like the June-60 for its simplicity. Given 3 possible settings, on/off is what you get. No knobs to turn. Just old school push buttons. The aesthetics are unique, dare I say 'quirky' at the least. The side rails are real wood, but the yellow plastic push buttons are where it jumps the tracks.

Tonally, the June-60 is not subtle: * Setting 1 is the "lightest" touch with depth at a longer cycle * Setting 2 flirts with rotary territory greater depth and faster cycles * Having both on results in an interesting clipping at the peaks while remaining musical

I'm a sucker for the Hammond rotary sound so setting 2 is my fave application with this pedal. EOD, the June is fun to play with, but she will not replace my Julia which has earned a coveted place on my board and is damn near always on.

Hey Jim, I got this little bundle from my Secret Santa up in Seattle. Quite thoughtful IMO. The June-60 was on my wishlist, but the discovery of Seattle's own Tacocat was the real jem.

And I fail on posting images... :0(

Ideas for Feature Articles

I had an idea for Feature Articles. I thought there was a thread for this but I could not find it, so here goes.

"Best Mini or Micro Pedals"

Feature Ideas for Forums * Forum Post History for users * Manage Forum Topic Subscriptions There are some topics I've posted to in the past, but I'll be damned if I can find those conversations. We've discussed search in the past and recognize that was a heavy lift, I'm hoping one of the above features would be an easy lift for development. Cheers! ~m

I Write For The Site, Is There Any Articles You Guys Would Like To See

No worries. I've been in here long enough to be well aware of the passion in your pursuits. You're the pro who know's his shit. I'm just the hobbiest who digs all the gears. Given the difficulty of reviewing the gear, would a retrospective on builders in the realm of feasible? ~m

I Write For The Site, Is There Any Articles You Guys Would Like To See

The question was not "Is there any EASY articles...". I can give suggestions all day long, but I will leave the writing to you and the crew. Though I do hope you're having fun regardless. Considering custom strings; nickel or otherwise, I ultimately landed on customs because it beat the heck out of buying double packs to hand assemble a mix of guages: one and done with a tone I love. As for cables, I understand what you're saying with solid core being stiff and also a stiff hit to the wallet, but I'll check into Evidence. I personally, am not a fan of solderless so George L's are out for me. I will say this about custom builders, the crews running what tend to be small shops treat customers like rockstars... even those for whom, playing out means playing in a dingy, cold garage. Respect! ~m

"Member Of" Solo Acts as Backing Artists

In adding artist details, I've found an EquipBoard issue with "Member Of" listings that I'm hoping can be easily resolved.

It is currently not possible to associate an artist as a "Member Of" a solo act. Example: Robbie Blunt, guitarist for Robert Plant when he launched his solo career post Led Zeppelin.

I've been scrubbing the forums for a solution. To much distraction and a few tangential posts. Finally, I decided to ask if this relationship limit in Equipboard could be resolved to allow for improved listings. I recognize, this could go deep considering how many artists slide in for studio and stage work backing solo acts, but I would love that level of detail.

If there is a way, and I'm missing it, feel free to call me a dolt, but please do give guidance in the meantime.

Thanks,

~m

Favorite Sandwiches

Food and gear? I always go where the locals go and skip the chains. With that in mind, here's a breadslab behemeth worth seeking out when in SLC: the Muffaletta from Caputo's Deli is an assembly that John Montagu would marvel in. It stomps the olive salad out of those tepid muffs the city of New Orleans now churns out. So good! ~m

I Write For The Site, Is There Any Articles You Guys Would Like To See

Here are two topics I'd love to see from EquipBoard: * 5 Best Custom Guitar Cables * 5 Best Custom Guitar Strings

I definitely relied on the original "5 Best Guitar Cables" in making some early purchases. Since then I've moved on and found my favorite in Rattlesnake Cables, but there are many contenders including Sinesoid and George L's etc.

Similarly, I was a devout Ernie Ball Strings player for decades, until I found inspiration in custom wound and configures sets that I love in Stringjoy. I would still be very interested in the clinical results of formal research.

Lastly, I'll toss a 3rd idea on the topics pile with "Custom" being the operative: * 5 Best Things About Custom Things Have fun with that one. The world is your oyster pearl inlay.

In the same vein and with tonewoods in mind, I'd be interested in rare woods, old guitars and how the CITES Treaty is currently or stands to change wood choices in the future. All the legaleeze of the ruling makes my head spin. Finding something more down to earth is what I'm seeking. You could take the topic of CITES/Tonewoods topic in many directions. From alternative woods and the delta between the woods they replace, or illegal trafficking or even requirements for traveling with a guitar that incorporates CITES restricted materials.

Biffy Clyro is prolific! Thanks for the recommend. I had to do some searching to find "Infinity Land" here. The band actually played in Utah back in 2007, had I known then, I surely would have gone. I hang onto gear so, yeah, I've got a room full. I'm digging the tele most of all, and the Blues Cube has been great as a pedal platform. Ibiza would be awesome! Neighboring Portugul has long been on my wish list so I can appreciate the commitment it takes to make travel dreams come true. Rock & Roll! ~m

Gear Purchases

I just purchased my 1st mic: Blue Yeti Pro. Hooray! I then realized, buying a mic doesn't mean, good to go. Boo! To be clear, I am the one with the problem. The Yeti itself is great. Its just all the other crap you can buy to go with any given piece of gear. From the mic, I went to pop filters, interface systems and XLR cables. Now looking at mic stands and... Is this gear acquisition thing more of an addiction or best considered as retail therapy?! ~m

Gear Purchases

Thanks Narcist. I was interested in the Epiphone Wildkat for a while, but having played a few and looking around, I found the build quality was pretty shaggy. The AM73 has a bit higher price point, but is still approachable. Of course, the ultimate for me is built from Unobtanium. At least for the near term... I've been dreaming of a Gretsch Chet Atkins for 20+ years now. Some day! ~m

Yeah, it's a sickness. I've got my mind set on an envelope filter and an eq after that. Then I should be be able to shed some baggage and settle in for some serious woodshedding for quite some time. ~m
