About
Agent Orange is a pioneering surf punk band that emerged from the vibrant punk scene of Orange County, California, in 1979. Founded by Mike Palm (guitar, vocals), the group originally included Steve Soto (bass) and Scott Miller (drums). Known for their unique fusion of classic surf rock guitar riffs and the high-speed intensity of hardcore punk, Agent Orange helped define the skate punk genre with their seminal tracks like "Bloodstains" and their influential debut album, Living in Darkness. Over the years, despite numerous lineup changes, the band's core sound has remained a staple in the West Coast punk community.
How to Sound Like Agent Orange
Agent Orange's sound is characterized by its aggressive yet melodic guitar work, combining the reverb-drenched tones of surf music with the raw energy of punk. The band often utilizes the Fender Stratocaster and Fender Jazzmaster, known for their bright, clean sounds that can easily transition into distorted punk fury. The use of the Fender Bassman AB165 Amp contributes to their powerful, driving sound, delivering the warm, tube-driven tones that complement their dynamic style. To capture the band's energetic vibe, a mix of crisp, biting distortion and vintage surf-inspired reverb is essential, allowing for the seamless blend of genres that defines Agent Orange’s enduring musical legacy.
