About

Blancmange is a pioneering English electronic band formed in 1979, originally consisting of Neil Arthur (vocals, lyrics) and Stephen Luscombe (keyboards, synthesizers). Known for their unique blend of new wave, synthpop, and electropop, they became a significant part of the early '80s music scene, contributing to the synth-driven soundscapes that defined the era. With hits like "Living on the Ceiling" and "Blind Vision," Blancmange achieved substantial chart success and left an indelible mark on electronic music. After a hiatus, Neil Arthur revived the band, continuing to produce music that resonates with both nostalgia and modernity.

How to Sound Like Blancmange

Blancmange's sound is characterized by its crisp, melodic synth lines and energetic, rhythmic undercurrents. Their music features a dynamic interplay between lush synthesizer textures and driving electronic beats, creating an atmosphere that is both vibrant and introspective. The Roland JX-8P synthesizer, used by Luscombe, contributes to the band’s rich, analog warmth, while the Linn Electronics LinnDrum drum machine provides the punchy, percussive backbone that propels their tracks forward. The combination of these elements results in a sound that is polished yet organic, allowing Blancmange to maintain their timeless appeal in the ever-evolving landscape of electronic music.
