About

Electronic was a pioneering British supergroup formed in 1988, blending the talents of Bernard Sumner, lead vocalist and guitarist of New Order, and Johnny Marr, former guitarist of The Smiths. Known for their innovative fusion of new wave, electronica, and alternative rock, the duo often collaborated with other notable musicians, such as Neil Tennant of the Pet Shop Boys and former Kraftwerk member Karl Bartos. Electronic's self-titled debut album released in 1991, introduced a sound that combined the melodic sensibilities of Britpop with the rhythmic allure of dance rock, resonating with fans of the Madchester and new romantic movements.

How to Sound Like Electronic

Achieving Electronic’s distinctive sound involves capturing a blend of melodic and rhythmic elements with a polished, yet dynamic feel. The group's music often features clean, jangly guitar tones interwoven with lush synthesizer textures. Johnny Marr's use of the Fender Stratocaster paired with the shimmering clarity of a Roland JC-120 Jazz Chorus amp contributes to the crispness and depth in their sound. Meanwhile, Bernard Sumner's integration of synthesizers and drum machines lays the foundation for their danceable grooves. The strategic use of effects like the Line 6 M13 Stompbox Modeler helps in crafting the atmospheric layers that define their music, offering a rich palette of sonic textures. Together, these elements create a soundscape that is both expansive and intricately detailed, embodying the essence of Electronic’s genre-blending artistry.
