Gillan was a British hard rock band fronted by the legendary Ian Gillan, known for his work with Deep Purple. Formed in 1978, the group initially consisted of Ian Gillan (vocals), Steve Byrd (guitar), John McCoy (bass), Colin Towns (keyboards), and Pete Barnacle (drums). However, this lineup quickly changed with Bernie Torme replacing Byrd and Mick Underwood taking over the drums. The band is celebrated for its straightforward hard rock sound, distinct from the progressive rock tendencies of Gillan's previous projects. Throughout its existence, Gillan released several influential albums, including Mr. Universe and Future Shock, before disbanding in the early '80s after Ian Gillan joined Black Sabbath.
