Isengard Members, Gear & Sound

Isengard is a Norwegian metal project conceived by Gylve "Fenriz" Nagell, a multi-instrumentalist best known for his work with the black metal band Darkthrone. Isengard serves as Fenriz's solo venture, where he explores a diverse range of genres, including black metal, folk metal, and pagan black metal. The project is heavily influenced by Fenriz's interest in Tolkien's mythology, which is reflected in both the lyrical themes and the atmospheric soundscapes. Isengard's music bridges the gap between the raw aggression of black metal and the melodic, narrative-driven elements of folk music, creating a unique blend that stands out in the metal genre.

Isengard’s music is characterized by its raw, gritty texture, often achieved through the use of crunchy, distorted guitar tones that evoke a sense of ancient mysticism and primal energy. Gylve Nagell’s use of instruments like the Gibson Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar contributes to the thick, aggressive sound that defines much of Isengard's work. The bass lines, played on the Peavey T-40, add a deep, resonant undertone that complements the dynamic drum patterns.
