About
Love and Rockets is an influential English band that emerged from the ashes of the iconic gothic rock group Bauhaus. Formed in 1985, the group consists of Daniel Ash (guitar, vocals), David J (bass, vocals), and Kevin Haskins (drums). Diverging from their previous band's dark, brooding sound, Love and Rockets embraced a richer tapestry of genres, blending new wave, post-punk, dream pop, and gothic rock. This eclectic mix allowed them to carve a distinct niche in the music landscape, punctuated by the surprise hit single "So Alive" in 1989.
How to Sound Like Love and Rockets
Love and Rockets is known for their psychedelic and glam rock-infused sound, characterized by lush, swirling textures and hypnotic rhythms. The band often employs a rich blend of clean and distorted guitar tones, achieved through the use of effects like the Boss DS-1 Distortion and WEM Watkins Copicat for delay. Daniel Ash's use of the Heet Sound EBow contributes to the ethereal and sustained notes that define their sonic landscape. Their music is deeply atmospheric, with layered guitars and a driving rhythm section creating a dynamic yet cohesive sound. The combination of ambient effects and melodic bass lines provides a dreamlike quality, making their music both engaging and immersive.
