David Gilmour talks about it in an interview with Guitar World Magazine. It appeared on "Take It Back" and "Keep Talking" from the album "The Division Bell." "Are you using an E-bow on "Take It Back"? Yeah! On a Gibson J-200 acoustic guitar that is processed through a Zoom effects box, then directly injected into the board. That' s a pretty bizarre configuration. Well, I guess I experiment more than I think I do! I had a Zoom in my control room one day and I was mucking about with something. Suddenly, I thought I should stick the E-bow on the strings and see what would happen. It sounded great, so we started writing a little duet for the E-bowed acoustic guitar and a keyboard. We never finished the piece, but [keyboardist] Jon Carin decided to sample the E-bowed guitar part. We kept the sample and ended up using it as a loop on "Take It Back," and again on "Keep Talking."more

An "electronic-bow" for guitar. James uses this small hand-held device on many of the Pumpkins songs, usually combined with a digital delay. The way the effect works is that it is placed over the string on the pickup of the guitar and it vibrates the string and keeps the note sounding. "In the studio I use a lot of E-Bow. I used it for things like vocal reinforcement on Superstar Carwash [*sic*], like 'Close Your Eyes' and 'On the Lie.' I also did a thing where I plugged the guitar into a Leslie and played notes with an E-Bow. Then I went back and did another track and played the second note of a chord. I built chords that way, and punched components of each chord in and out. It sounded a lot like an organ. I love the sound of Leslies, but it's hard to use that shit live."more
"I used it a fair bit on ‘Little Fictions’ (the track). The mayhem and craziness at the end of the song came from a wild sample that Craig found, along with me playing. I used this and a piece of hoover tubing, and the idea was to play randomly which is the most difficult thing you can do. I remember Les Dawson playing the piano badly, and later on you realise just how hard it is to actually do that! A friend said the end of the track sounds like galloping horses, and that’s something like what we were trying to get. A lot of sound creation went on in the album and the end of that track is the most obvious example of it. Everything is random on there."more
Brad says he used the EBOW on "This Song Was Meant for You", a song from Conspiracty No. 5. According to Brad, the EBOW is "really cello sounding and melodic". He also says he "kind of got married to the EBOW back then, because it gave him a different texture to apply". Third Day also discusses the EBOW on the audio commentary on the Come Together Tour DVD. Just like the Boomerang III Phrase Sampler the EBow is one of Elliott's most used tools. Whenever I went to one of his concerts he ended up using it. In a private conversation he mentioned that the infinite sustain of the EBow is one of his favorite guitar effects and that he's been experimenting with it ever since he first heard about it (since the late 1970's).more

Yes this thing is cool for infinite 1 string bowing. But it's dated. Fernandez and Sustainiac have made improvements on the "Infinite Guitar" Sound. Neat, but you can get better features elswhere.
this was given to me by a friend. I still consider it his but it's primarily been in my possession. It takes some practice but provides a great sound you can hear in a lot of records.
A versitile and relatively inexpensive piece of equipment to add to your music toolkit. Great for creating drones, loops, soundscapes and mimicking other instruments e.g. violin.
I use an EBow on Medicine Club's song 'Hear No, Speak No'. The ability to sustain notes, especially when combined with some delay, allows you to create incredible soundscapes which can really fill a venue/recording.
An incredible tool, but I found it very limited. Transitioning between strings was not easy. I recorded one song with it. However, playing it live was awkward and for that reason I started to play with more distortion + compressor to get my notes sustained longer, which did the job. After that, I sold the Ebow. I know people who love using it, maybe it was not right for me.
