About

Lush was a pioneering British band formed in London in 1987, known for their influential contributions to the shoegaze, dream pop, and alternative rock genres. The group originally comprised Miki Berenyi (vocals, guitar), Emma Anderson (guitar, vocals), Chris Acland (drums), Steve Rippon (bass), and briefly, Meriel Barham (guitar). Following Rippon's departure, Philip King joined as the bassist, completing the lineup. Lush gained a dedicated following with their early EPs and became known for their ethereal soundscapes and catchy melodies, achieving commercial success with albums like Lovelife.

How to Sound Like Lush

Lush's sound is characterized by dreamy, effects-laden guitar textures and airy pop melodies, creating an immersive listening experience. Their music blends lush, reverberant guitar tones with chorus and delay effects, often delivered through instruments like the Fender Jaguar and Gibson ES-335 12-String, used by Miki Berenyi. The combination of distorted yet melodic riffs and the use of pedals such as the Boss DS-1 Distortion adds a layer of intensity to their ethereal soundscapes. Lush's music often features a rich blend of harmonies and rhythmic dynamics, underpinning their ability to craft both introspective and vibrant musical narratives.
