About
Monaco is a British musical group formed by Peter Hook (bass, vocals) and David Potts (guitar, vocals), emerging from the vibrant Manchester music scene in the mid-1990s. Known for their engaging blend of New Wave, Synthpop, and Britpop, Monaco captures the essence of the Madchester sound with a dance-rock flair. Following Hook's tenure with New Order, Monaco continued the legacy of melodic bass lines and catchy synth-driven rhythms, creating music often likened to Hook's previous projects.
How to Sound Like Monaco
Monaco’s sound is characterized by brooding yet melodic bass lines and crisp, shimmering guitar riffs. The music evokes a moody yet danceable atmosphere, often achieved through the use of Electro-Harmonix XO Stereo Clone Theory for rich chorus effects that deepen the texture. Hook’s bass playing, frequently utilizing a Gibson EB-0, adds a pulsating backbone to the tracks, while Potts' use of a Fender Stratocaster provides a clean yet vibrant lead. The incorporation of dynamic effects like the Boss RV-2 Digital Reverb further enhances their expansive, atmospheric sound, making their music both engaging and immersive.
