About
Poisonblack is a Finnish metal band hailing from Oulu, known for their dark, brooding sound that seamlessly blends elements of gothic metal, doom metal, and alternative metal. Formed in 2000 by Ville Laihiala—who transitioned from his role as the frontman of the renowned band Sentenced to focus on guitar and vocals—Poisonblack's lineup also includes Janne Markus (guitar), Antti Remes (bass), Tarmo Kanerva (drums), and Marco Sneck (keyboards). Initially featuring Charon singer Juha-Pekka Leppäluoto on vocals, the band shifted to Laihiala’s distinctive voice after Sentenced disbanded, releasing albums like Lust Stained Despair and A Dead Heavy Day, which solidified their place in the Finnish rock and metal scene.
How to Sound Like Poisonblack
Poisonblack's sonic palette is characterized by heavy, melancholic riffs and atmospheric keyboards, creating a sound that is both aggressive and melodic. The use of distorted guitars with rich, sustaining tones, often achieved with gear like the ESP LTD Phoenix-1000 and the Boss MT-2 Metal Zone, defines their intense, dark aesthetic. To capture their layered and immersive sound, synthesizers like the Korg Triton Pro 76 add lush, ethereal textures, while dynamic rhythms and powerful bass lines underpin their compositions, driving the music with a relentless energy. The combination of these elements results in a sound that is both haunting and powerful, resonating with fans of gothic and melodic metal alike.
