About
The Babys is a rock band that emerged from London in the mid-1970s, making waves with their energetic blend of rock and adult-oriented rock (AOR). The original lineup featured John Waite (vocals, bass), Wally Stocker (lead guitar), Michael Corby (keyboards, rhythm guitar), and Tony Brock (drums). Known for their infectious melodies and polished performances, The Babys achieved international fame with hits like "Every Time I Think of You" and "Isn't It Time". Although the band disbanded in 1981, they later reformed with co-founders Tony Brock and Wally Stocker, adding new members John Bisaha (lead vocals, bass) and Joey Sykes (guitar) to continue their legacy.
How to Sound Like The Babys
The Babys' sound is characterized by soaring melodies and dynamic guitar riffs, often layered over richly arranged keyboards. Their music blends the polished clarity of rock with the emotive depth of AOR, marked by the use of lush harmonies and driving rhythms. The use of the Fender Stratocaster provided a crisp, articulate tone, while the Gibson Custom Shop EDS-1275 Double-Neck Guitar added a distinctive sonic texture, allowing for seamless transitions between shimmering cleans and powerful leads. Keyboards, often utilizing the Sequential Circuits Prophet-5, added a lush, symphonic layer that enriched their sound, making their music both timeless and resonant.
