About
The Cribs are a British indie rock band known for their raw energy and catchy melodies, hailing from Wakefield, West Yorkshire. Formed in 2001, the group is composed of twin brothers Gary Jarman (bass, vocals) and Ryan Jarman (guitar, vocals), along with their younger brother Ross Jarman (drums). Over the years, their sound has evolved through elements of garage rock, post-punk revival, and lo-fi music, making them a staple in the UK indie scene. At one point, the iconic guitarist Johnny Marr was also a member, adding a layer of sophistication to their music.
How to Sound Like The Cribs
The Cribs’ sound is characterized by its dynamic, gritty guitar riffs and punchy, anthemic hooks. Their music often blends the aggressive edge of punk with the melodic sensibilities of Britpop, creating a sound that is both rebellious and infectious. To achieve their distinctive vibe, the band utilizes distorted, jangly guitar tones, often with the help of amps like the Green Electricamp used by Ryan Jarman. The bass lines, bolstered by effects such as the DOD FX92 Bass Grunge, add a grungy depth to their tracks, while the drum patterns provide a steady yet lively backbone. This combination of raw instrumentation and energetic performance encapsulates their spirited approach to rock music.
