Witchfinder General is an influential English doom metal band that emerged from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) scene in 1980. Hailing from Stourbridge, the group was formed by Zeeb Parkes (vocals), Phil Cope (guitars), Woolfy Trope (bass), and Graham Ditchfield (drums). Known for their raw, heavy sound and often controversial album artwork, Witchfinder General drew inspiration from the likes of Black Sabbath, crafting a sound that would later resonate strongly with the doom metal community. Despite releasing only two albums, Death Penalty and Friends of Hell, their impact on the genre is undeniable, setting the groundwork for future doom metal acts.
