Brian Moore Guitars was founded in June 1992 by Patrick Cummings, Brian Moore, and Kevin Kalagher, three former Steinberger employees who stayed in New York after Gibson moved that division south. The company's first instrument, the MC/1 — a joint design effort between Moore and Cummings — debuted in 1993 with an ergonomic neck-through body and sculpted headstock that would become signature traits of the brand.
The company is best known for its MIDI- and synth-ready electric guitars. After building its early reputation on the high-end Custom Shop line and the more accessible C Series with bolt-on necks, in 2000 it introduced the Korean-built iGuitar series, which put many of Brian Moore's design cues into reach of a wider audience. iGuitar models such as the iGuitar 2.13, 8.13, and 88.13 combine magnetic and piezo pickups with a 13-pin output compatible with Roland guitar synthesizers (GR-55, VG-99 and earlier GR- and VG-series units), Axon, and Yamaha G50 systems; some models also added USB output for direct recording. The RMC-based piezo saddle system allows players to blend magnetic, piezo, and MIDI signals from a single instrument.
In 2008 the operation transitioned under the iGuitar name and relocated to Cold Spring, New York, continuing to build Custom Shop instruments while overseeing the imported iGuitar line. The brand occupies a niche among guitar-synth and hybrid-tone players who want factory-integrated MIDI capability rather than an aftermarket hex pickup.
