Keplinger Drums is a boutique percussion company founded by Gregg Keplinger, a Seattle-based drummer, drum maker, and drum technician. Keplinger began playing drums at age 14 and went on to study under jazz legend Elvin Jones in New York. He toured extensively as a drum tech for Matt Cameron across Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and other bands, and contributed studio work on Soundgarden's Superunknown. After acquiring a 1930s Ludwig 6.5x14 steel snare drum with an extraordinary tone, he was inspired to source stainless steel from a Seattle industrial pipe manufacturer and build his first custom snare drum — launching a line of instruments defined by hefty metal shells and an industrial personality.

Gregg handcrafts each instrument at his Seattle studio. The core lineup consists of snare drums in stainless steel, steel (black iron), and brass, available in 14" diameter with depths ranging from 4" to 8". Standard builds feature tube tugs, triple-flanged hoops, a Dunnett R4 throw-off, 16-strand snare wires, and a Remo Coated Emperor batter head, with shells at a substantial 3mm thickness. Beyond snare drums, the workshop produces stainless steel cymbals in 21" and 23" sizes, the Signature Ching Ring (available with standard or hand-made jingles), and metal shakers in various sizes. Custom one-off instruments are also available by request.

Keplinger drums have been played by Elvin Jones, Matt Cameron, Dave Grohl, Glenn Kotche, Zach Hill, and Jeremy Taggart, among others. The drums are known for their explosive, versatile sound — capable of ranging from crisp and cutting to warm and resonant — and are sought after by drummers who prioritize craftsmanship and tonal character.
