Maselec is a line of high-end analog mastering and recording processors designed by Swedish engineer and producer Leif Mases, whose credits include work with ABBA, Led Zeppelin, Jeff Beck, and Black Sabbath, and who co-owned Polar Studios and London's Marcus Studios. Mases first gained recognition in pro audio circles for the Maselec 9001 retrofit equalizer for SSL 4000 consoles, and later partnered with UK-based Prism Sound to manufacture and distribute the Maselec Master Series.
The range centers on precision analog outboard aimed at mastering engineers and high-end tracking studios. Core products include the MEA-2 four-band stereo mastering equalizer, the MLA-2 and MLA-4 compressors, the MPL-2 peak and high-frequency limiter, the MDS-2 de-esser, and the MTC-1X and MTC-2 mastering transfer consoles, along with the MMA-4XR monitor controller and STM-882 stem mixer. The designs are known for low noise, stepped controls suited to recall, and transparent, program-dependent processing.
