TUBE-TECH is a Danish manufacturer of tube-based professional audio equipment, built by Lydkraft ApS in Rødovre, Denmark. The company was founded in 1977 by engineer John G. Petersen and two partners, and its gear is hand-built by a small in-house team. TUBE-TECH's catalog focuses on all-tube signal processors, including microphone preamps and DI units, recording channels, equalizers, and compressors, along with a modular RM Series and licensed plug-in versions of classic hardware.
The brand is best known for the CL 1B optical compressor, a 3U all-tube unit introduced in 1991 with continuously variable threshold, ratio, attack, and release controls, which has become a studio staple for vocal tracking and mixing. Other widely used designs include the LCA 2B stereo vari-mu compressor, the SMC 2B multiband compressor, the PE 1C program equalizer (a Pultec-style EQ), the ME 1B midrange EQ, and the HLT 2A shelving EQ, which received a TEC Award at NAMM 2016. Early point-to-point wired units carry the Lydkraft badge and are prized on the vintage market.
TUBE-TECH hardware has a long track record in commercial studios and with high-profile mix engineers; Al Schmitt regularly used the SMC 2B, and Richard Furch tracked vocals for Tyrese Gibson's Black Rose through a CL 1B. The plug-in emulations, developed in partnership with Softube and Universal Audio, have brought the CL 1B and related designs to in-the-box workflows.
TUBE-TECH has 24 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Effects Processors, Preamps, and Compressor Plugins. Their gear is featured by 115 artists, with the strongest followings in Electronic, Pop, and Hip Hop. Notable users include Justin Vernon, Benny Blanco, and Jonathan Davis. Most TUBE-TECH products sit firmly in the high-end, boutique range.
