Modulus is an American bass guitar manufacturer best known for pioneering the use of aerospace-grade carbon fiber (graphite) necks. The company traces its origins to the late 1970s in the San Francisco Bay Area, where bassist and aerospace worker Geoff Gould collaborated with Alembic to build a prototype graphite-neck bass, famously purchased at a 1977 trade show by Fleetwood Mac's John McVie. By the early 1980s, Modulus was producing replacement graphite necks for Fender and Alembic basses before moving into full instruments of its own.

The brand is most associated with the Quantum, a neck-through bass that became a staple for players seeking extreme stiffness, tuning stability, and a clear, consistent tone across the fretboard. Other models include the Quantum TBX, the bolt-on Modern J5, the Funk Unlimited and Funk Persuasion, and the Vintage J. A Flea signature Funk series, developed with Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, helped raise the brand's profile in the 1990s and 2000s before the line evolved into the non-signature Funk Unlimited.

Now operating under the Modulus Graphite name, the company continues to build small batches of handcrafted, American-made instruments. A signature visual detail on many Quantum necks is the "KLD" carbon weave pattern, a layered graphite finish the brand has used for decades. Modulus basses have been played by artists across funk, rock, and progressive styles, including Flea, Stu Hamm, Michael Manring, and Me'Shell NdegéOcello.
