Overwater is a British bass guitar maker established in 1979 by luthier Chris May, with roots tracing back to a 1977 workshop on London's Denmark Street that May ran with business partner Andy Preston. After moving from London to Newcastle and later the Pennine hills near Alston, the company is now based at the Atlas Works in Carlisle. More than four thousand instruments have been built by the small team in the UK.

The lineup centers on hand-built electric basses across several series: the flagship Progress, the J Series and P Series traditional-style instruments, the Hybrid series that blends Progress and J Series traits, hollowbody chambered models, and a Signature range that includes collaborations with Scott Devine and Phil Mann. Instruments are offered in Standard and Custom tiers with through-neck or bolt-on construction and 4- or 5-string configurations. Overwater also produces its own line of strings.

The brand has built a reputation for high-end custom craftsmanship and detailed customer specification, with a customer base spanning amateurs and West End session and theatre players. A more accessible range was introduced through a partnership with Tanglewood, broadening access to the Overwater design language at lower price points.
