Warwick is a German bass guitar manufacturer founded in 1982 in Erlangen, Bavaria, by Hans-Peter Wilfer. In 1995, the company relocated to Markneukirchen in the Saxon Vogtland — a region with a centuries-old tradition of instrument building — where it also revived the historic Framus brand. Warwick builds basses across three tiers: hand-built custom shop instruments crafted to individual specifications, the German-made Pro Series offering access to the same factory at a more accessible price, and the RockBass line manufactured in China for players at earlier stages of their career. Core models include the Thumb, Streamer, Corvette, Dolphin, and Star Bass, each available in multiple configurations.
Warwick earned its reputation for distinctive tone and the use of exotic tonewoods — bubinga, wenge, ovangkol, and swamp ash among them — producing instruments known for their growling, organic character. Beyond bass guitars, the company also manufactures valve and FET amplifiers, speaker cabinets, and bass guitar strings. Warwick maintains one of the most extensive artist signature programs in the bass world, having developed instruments alongside Robert Trujillo of Metallica, Bootsy Collins, Jack Bruce of Cream, John Entwistle of The Who, Adam Clayton of U2, P-Nut of 311, Jonas Hellborg, and T.M. Stevens, among others.
Warwick has 290 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Electric Basses, Fretless Basses, and Bass Amplifier Heads. Their gear is featured by 207 artists, with the strongest followings in Rock, Metal, and Funk / Soul. Notable users include Paul Gray (2), Ryan Martinie, and P-Nut. Most Warwick products sit firmly in the high-end, boutique range.
