Poly Effects is an Australian effects pedal and Eurorack module maker founded by Loki Davison in Melbourne in late 2016. Davison brings roughly two decades of synthesizer coding experience to the company, having studied computer music and physical modeling synthesis at Monash University and Ulm University in Germany. That synth-design background is central to the brand's identity: Poly Effects pedals use large touchscreen interfaces and a modular signal-routing architecture inspired by environments like Max/MSP, Pure Data, and Bitwig, giving players unusually deep control over their sounds.
The product lineup spans guitar/bass effects pedals and Eurorack. The Beebo is the flagship — a touchscreen multi-effects unit that functions as a virtual modular synth, incorporating ports of respected Mutable Instruments Eurorack modules like Plaits and Clouds alongside conventional effects (delay, reverb, chorus, looper, amp modeling, convolution reverb, and more). The Digit preceded it as a quad-channel reverb and delay unit, and the two eventually merged firmware. The Hector is a 30HP Eurorack module sharing Beebo's engine, with over 100 modules and 6-in/8-out CV/audio connectivity. Verbs is a dedicated convolution reverb pedal loaded with impulse responses captured from real acoustic spaces, vintage plate reverbs, and spring units. Ample is a compact amp-in-a-box housing 56 classic amp tones via impulse responses. Trails offers seven unconventional stereo effects modes — sympathetic strings, granular textures, vinyl delays, resonators, vocal modeling, wavefolding, and micro-looping — with an onboard 8-step sequencer. The Kanso and Josh Smith Flat V are gain/drive pedals developed in collaboration with blues-rock guitarist Josh Smith.
All Poly Effects products are hand-built in Melbourne by a small team. The company is known for an aggressive firmware update cadence — roughly 50 updates in a single year for the Beebo — continually expanding the feature sets of its existing hardware. Presets are shareable via USB and compatible across devices that share the same firmware platform.
