Founded in 1998 by microphone designer David Royer, along with Rick Perrotta and John Jennings, Royer Labs is an American ribbon microphone manufacturer based in Burbank, California. The company launched with the R-121, a passive ribbon microphone whose offset ribbon element and neodymium magnets addressed the fragility and low output that had sidelined ribbon mics for decades. The R-121 is widely credited with reviving mainstream interest in ribbon technology and remains a studio standard for guitar amplifiers, brass, strings, and drum overheads. Royer went on to develop the R-122, the first phantom-powered active ribbon microphone, and the R-122V, the first vacuum tube ribbon microphone.

The product line spans three main series: the R-Series mono ribbons (R-10, R-12, R-121, R-122 MKII, R-122V), the SF-Series stereo ribbons (SF-2, SF-12, SF-24, SF-24V) prized for orchestral and acoustic recording, and the Live Series designed for stage use. All microphones are hand-built at the company's Burbank facility. Royer received a Technical Grammy Award in 2013 for bringing ribbon microphones into mainstream recording, and multiple TEC Awards for individual products. Users include Carlos Santana, Herb Alpert, and engineers such as Steve Albini, Ed Cherney, Bruce Swedien, and Elliot Scheiner, and the microphones have appeared on tours with Aerosmith, Pearl Jam, Maroon 5, and on Broadway stages.

Royer has 24 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Ribbon Microphones and Clips & Mounts. Their gear is featured by 57 artists, with the strongest followings in Rock, Pop, and Jazz.
