Sonic Research Inc. is a Carson City, Nevada-based manufacturer of strobe tuners for musical instruments, founded by Marty Jensen. The company sells exclusively direct to consumers through its website. All Turbo Tuner products are manufactured in the USA and feature what Sonic Research calls "True Strobe Technology" — an LED ring driven directly by the analog input signal and electronically strobed against an internally generated frequency reference, producing a genuine stroboscopic effect rather than the simulated strobe displays found in most competing tuners.
The Turbo Tuner product line has evolved through several generations. The ST-122 was a benchtop-style strobe tuner, later updated to the ST-122A with an aluminum enclosure. The ST-200 moved the technology into a stompbox format with true bypass. The ST-300, available in both full-size and mini stompbox versions, represents the flagship of the lineup, offering chromatic tuning across the full audible range (C0 to C8), programmable temperaments, and adjustable calibration from 300Hz to 599Hz. Each unit is factory-calibrated to ±1 ppm, with accuracy guaranteed to ±0.02 cents for the life of the product.
The Turbo Tuner has earned a devoted following among professional guitarists and bassists who prize tuning precision. Notable users include Ed O'Brien of Radiohead, Andy Timmons, and blues guitarist Matt Schofield, who has called it "the most accurate, compact and reliable stage tuner" he's found.
Sonic Research has 4 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Pedal Tuners. Their gear is featured by 53 artists, with the strongest followings in Rock, Folk, World, & Country, and Pop. Notable users include Andy Timmons, Matt Schofield, and Vadim Taver.
