Saint Blues Guitar Workshop is a Memphis, Tennessee-based maker of handbuilt electric guitars and basses. Its roots trace back to 1960s Memphis, when luthiers Charles Lawing and Tom Keckler first collaborated at Mike Ladd's Guitar City across the street from Graceland. The St. Blues brand itself was formed in the mid-1980s at Strings and Things using the body shape Lawing and Keckler had designed for the original Bluesmaster model. After a hiatus, the company was revived under Bryan Eagle and set up shop on Marshall Avenue, across from Sun Studio.
The workshop's output is organized into three tiers: the high-end Workshop Series of custom guitars, the mid-priced Juke Joint Series, and the Roots Series of cigar box guitars. Signature models include the Bluesmaster, the Mississippi Bluesmaster (a 24¾"-scale mahogany body with Kent Armstrong humbuckers), the 61 South, the Blindsider, the Delta Blues Box, and the Legendary Bass. Kent Armstrong pickups and Wilkinson hardware are common specs across the line.
The brand leans heavily on its Memphis identity, drawing stylistic cues from the city's blues, soul, and rock and roll heritage. Each instrument is built from hand-selected lumber and assembled in-house, positioning Saint Blues as a small-batch boutique alternative to the larger American guitar manufacturers.
St. Blues has 6 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Solid Body Electric Guitars and Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitars.
