Turkish Cymbals is a handmade cymbal company based in Istanbul, Turkey, founded in 1996 by master cymbalsmith Mehmet Tamdeğer. Tamdeğer began learning the craft in 1950 as an apprentice of Mikhail Zilçan, and later established Istanbul Cymbals (now Istanbul Mehmet) in 1981 before launching Turkish Cymbals as a sister brand geared toward more contemporary designs. The cymbals are hammered and lathed by hand from B20 bronze in the traditional Istanbul method.
The catalog is organized into eight main series — Classic, Classic Brilliant, Signature, Millennium, Raw Brilliant, Cappadocia, META, and Apex — covering the usual crash, ride, hi-hat, splash, china, bell, and effect categories across sizes from 6" to 24". The lines range from warm, dark traditional voices to brighter, more aggressive modern tones, with dry and trashy options aimed at jazz, rock, and studio players.
Alongside the larger Istanbul-based makers like Istanbul Agop and Istanbul Mehmet, Turkish Cymbals is part of the cluster of Turkish workshops that trace their lineage back to the original Zildjian family tradition, and the brand is distributed internationally through dealers including retailers in the United States and Europe.
Turkish Cymbals has 499 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Crash Cymbals, Ride Cymbals, and Hi-hat Cymbals. Their gear is featured by 3 artists, with the strongest followings in Rock, Funk / Soul, and Jazz. Notable users include John Blackwell, Ryland Steen, and Wojtek Warmijak. Most Turkish Cymbals products fall in the mid-tier range — professional-grade without flagship pricing.
