Collateral FX Continuum OD

Avg price: $250.00

Must have for Strat players!

This pedal is that kind one all you have to do is to plug and play it, simple like that. It delivers John Mayer's Continuum album sound (as you might have already figured out!). On the green side we have a TS10, and on the red side we have a Klon Centaur. I go with Klon turned on all the time as my clean boost. The Klon side shines with that perfect mid-range scooped tone that you never get tired of. The pedal stacks pretty fine with other pedals. The TS side has that nasal mid-range scooped sound we all know in any TS pedal and has much more gain compared to the Klon. The TS side doesn't get clean at all, it always has some dirty coming out. I tried other pedals to use as my clean boost but I always comeback to Collateral FX Continuum. A highlight of this pedal is that you'll never hear any noisy coming out from it, even when two sides are on. It's impressive. By the other hand, something I must say is that you can notice a huge difference of volume between them, being the Klon much more higher than the TS, but that can be corrected using the knob controls. Another point is that you cannot change the signal chain, so, the TS will always push the Klon not allowing the inverse way. I love this pedal and it's always on on my pedalboard.

Preferred Settings + Usage:

  • TS10 - vol.: 2h | tone: 1h | gain: 8h;
  • Klon - vol.: 11h | tone: 1h/2h | gain: 10h.

Give it a try! Awesome hot rodded amp sound

Considering it was a blind buying, this pedal has instantly became a great surprise to me. Bought it from a friend of mine, so I knew who I was buying from. Once MXR says it's based on a classic circuit, I'd say it's the Tube Screamer because of its mid-range sound, which I please so much. The great deal with this pedal is due to the fact that it sounds mid-ranged, but not that kind of nasal mid-range sound we get from the TS ones. The pedal has a little switch which turns it into boost mode (middle position), overdrive mode with emphasis in high-end frequencies (hi) and a grit overdrive/distortion mode (low). The Boost mode is no clipping, while the Hi mode is LED clipping and Low mode is diode clipping. I tried them all and what I have to say is: (1) Boost and Hi mode: great to work with humbuckers, providing a balanced sound, not too shiny but not harsh on the low-end frequencies. I use this way to play some Oasis, it sound like Champagne Supernova intro on their 2025 tour; (2) Low mode: here is where the magic happens(!). This mode works pretty fine with single coils (I mean, it really does) preventing you stop playing (believe me). I'd say it's the SRV sound in all of its glory. That said, I must say it's not all heaven with this pedal, if you turn the gain knob up to 2-3 o'clock or even more, the pedal starts to sound a little noisy and sometimes it bothers. I like to use this pedal right after a Klon style pushing it as a clean boost. When I'm playing my Strat I use the MXR Il Diavolo with gain knob settled between 10h - 2h, but with my Les Paul I use it from 9h until 12h. That works for me! For sure this pedal is not for metal players, but for those who plays classic rock, hard rock and blues it's a MUST HAVE.

Preferred Settings + Usage:

  • Stratocaster: MXR Il Diavolo with gain knob settled between 10h - 2h;
  • Les Paul: MXR Il Diavolo with gain knob settled between 9h - 12h.

The best clean boost!

What to say? It's the best clean boost ever. Get the volume higher without coloring the sound. There's too much volume in this little box, I use it at 9h for solos. Great one and saves your board a lot of space!
