The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.4G lens dazzles with its sharpness and delightful bokeh, making it a favorite for detail shots and classic photojournalism. Its solid build is somewhat undercut by the surprising use of plastic, but the metal mount ensures durability. While color rendering is unique and pleasing, thanks in part to the Nano coating, the focus speed leaves something to be desired compared to other Nikon lenses. The 35mm focal length can be polarizing; it’s less comfortable for some, but a gem for others who favor it over the 50mm range. Overall, this lens offers exceptional optical performance with a few quirks that may or may not align with your shooting style.

Autofocus speed is surprisingly sluggish for a pro-grade lens, and issues like strong vignetting at f/1.4 and barrel distortion could be dealbreakers for some photographers. While its optical flaws are manageable, they might require extra attention in post-production. Despite these gripes, if Nikon is your go-to brand, the allure of its image quality might outweigh its cumbersome nature.

Autofocus is slower, and the lens suffers from noticeable vignetting and distortion. Though capable of capturing nice images, its high price and outdated optical design make it a tough sell in a market with better, more affordable options. Ideal for those who favor classic rendering over technical perfection.
