Roland's SPD-6 offers a compact, user-friendly MIDI drum pad controller with good-quality sounds and versatile power options, including battery use. While it’s easy to play with sticks or hands, the SPD-6 is hindered by limited polyphony and lacks a MIDI In, restricting its standalone use. The sound selection leans heavily on electronic tones and includes some novelty effects, which might not suit all genres. Despite these limitations, its affordability and ease of use make it a viable tool for programming percussion parts into a sequencer or for live jamming.

There are 6 rubber pads on the SPD6 that we use to trigger samples from the S2000. We also use the drum pads to play some of the 32 pre-set patches from the internal sound module. It is super fun to play drum sounds and samples on the pads instead of on the keyboard, cuz you can hit the pads with your hands or with drumsticks and really shake your body.
