A great ligature for modern progressive saxophone.
The ligature is the simple device that holds the reed on the sax mouthpiece, but even this simple device can make or break your sound and/or the ease of playability of the horn. Rovner is probably the largest ligature company, has been around a long time, and pretty much just specializes in ..."ligatures". The Versa-X is one of their newer ligature offerings and improves on the older Versa model. It is made for ....rock, jazz, R&B. It is specifically made to give your horn sound more brightness, edge, and definition, and it also allows you to play in the altissimo (very high note) register with more ease. I use a Versa-X-2M ligature on my Rousseau Metal Jazz Tenor mouthpiece, and a Versa-X-1RL ligature on my Claude Lakey Original Alto mouthpiece. Rovner has a neat selector-chart on their website that allows you to enter the horn-type and brand & model of mouthpiece you have, ...and then tells you the exact model (size) of ligature you need to order for an exact "fit".
