Jeff Loomis' Gear
In this post Jeff shows off the Jackson 7 string guitar he owns
From metalsucks.net: I use Ernie Ball .09-.46 strings with a .66 on the bottom, and I use Jim Dunlop 2mm Sharpie picks
Mr. Loomis refers to using a Peavey 5150 head in an article with Guitar Player. "I also used an old Peavey 5150 head that belongs to Peter Richards, our producer. "
"For the entire record, I used an Engl Special Edition head, an awesome amp that comes out of Germany."
Jeff Loomis talks about his Engl Amp during a break in shooting his rock house DVD EXTREME LEAD GUITAR
(2:54 minute mark) - Loomis loves the Boss SD-1 overdrive, because it doesn't change the tone of an amplifier. He praises it because most of the overdrive pedals take a lot of low end when the gain is raised, while Boss SD-1 doesn't do that.
I used the same basic amp setup for every time we've recorded in a different studio, which is a Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier with a tube screamer - very simple stuff.
All guitars were the album takes, reamped through the 100w 6L6 version of the head. The cabs are Hesu 2x12 cabs with Celestion V30 speakers. Drum mix by Mark Lewis at Audiohammer, song remix by Keith Merrow. Filmed at Jeff's studio in Seattle.
In an Instagram post by Jeff Loomis, his collection of amplifiers is showcased, including the Fortin Meshuggah Signature 50W amplifier.
You can see in this video that Jeff is using a lake placid blue yjm signature stratocaster
Jeff is reviewing his “best friend” in the Youtube vid. 👍 I don’t know if he’s still using these Amps but damn, that tone sounds good !!
Loving the Strymon stuff specially for cleans and ambient soundscapes at the moment
"This was an incredibly fun project. My very first real metal guitar was a Charvel model 1 back in the late 80s. I was lucky enough to find two of them in fairly decent shape on @reverb. However upon getting both of them they were not in the best condition. Enter my buddy Andy Beech from @dhaitreguitars. He did complete new paint jobs adding gold hardware new jumbo frets plus a few more extras to make these guitars play and sound insane. Thanks again my friend for your great work. I can relive my teenage years a bit."
Jeff Loomis uses the Seymour Duncan Palladium Gain Stage, as highlighted on the Seymour Duncan website.
I used to use the Savage 120 Engl head but recently switched over to Engl racks. I use the tube preamp 570 and the 100W Stereo power amp going into two Engl cabs housed with Celestion Vintage 30’s.
Jeff can be seen here playing on a Gibson Flying V.
Here, Jeff's playing a Schecter C-7 Blackjack
Here Jeff is playing with his Schecter Hellraiser C-7
In an Instagram post by Jeff Loomis (@jeffloomis1), he is seen practicing in Oberhausen, Germany, using the Schecter Hellraiser Hybrid C-1 FR. The post includes hashtags #schecterguitars and #archenemyband, highlighting his connection with the brand and band.
Jeff Loomis was seen at Namm 2020 with a Cockblocker Noise Gate.
You can see the Kemper rack on the right side of Jeff's desk. As far as I know Jeff and Keith Merrow are using Kemper profilers most of the time.
"I have a very long history with Schecter and I am extremely happy being with them. The Jl-7 guitar has been very successful and is still my main instrument of choice. With Arch Enemy I wanted something a bit more brutal and metal looking so we came up with the Cygnus JLX1 FR. It’s based on an early 80’s Charvel Star guitar with some tweaks in the design to make it look a bit more intense. I’m very happy with the results because it also has my new Seymour Duncan Signature Blackout pick ups which are brand new for 2016. Check out www.schecterguitars.com and www.seymourduncan.com websites for more info." -Jeff Loomis
He used KRANK Krankenstein Head on the NEVERMORE - The Year Of The Voyager DVD
I used to use the Savage 120 Engl head but recently switched over to Engl racks. I use the tube preamp 570 and the 100W Stereo power amp going into two Engl cabs housed with Celestion Vintage 30’s.
As seen in Ernie Ball's Instagram account.
Here’s some shots of a board we did for @jeffloomis1 last year. This one had some cool LEDs on it. With the @bossfx_us ES-8s versatility it is easily able to be used in stereo or mono amps, with or without effects loops. The Bigsky is also MIDI programmed to be turned on/off via the ES-8 without being in one of its’ loops. #RigsByBTPA
"Doing some recording with this bad boy today. Probably one of the nicest guitars I have ever played"
Jeff showing off two of his two main axes for the Will to Power tour cycle.
IN this post Jeff can be seen using a revv generator 100P amp. He used this on a few recordings
