Vintage gear - is it worth it?
Is vintage gear worth the price? I.E a 1983 boss ds1. Costing £85? Since selling my old one i can't justify buying it new again (had debts and had to feed family so most of my stuff went) why is a new ds1 £55 now? When i got one around 6 years ago it was £30 so why the mark up?
depends, the instance you've sited is pretty dubious. Were the early japanese pedals different? to a degree. Are they ebtter? up to opinion... for the kind of money you're describing are there GOBS of good current production DS1 based epdals that romp the original MIJ run as well as any subsequent versions? DEFINTIELY.
in the effects world there are much pricier old gadgets that are way mroe 'worth it' due to te inavailability of similar sounding stuff. That's becominging less and elss true, especially in teh world of fuzz and distortion, however in modulation adn delay effects I woulda say that certain thigns are worth it if you really want THAT sound. nothing else does a Mutron Biphase or Flanger. No substitute for the ADA Phaser and Flanger, nothing else like it. Every old tape echo ahs its charm and everything else is just an aproximation. A lot of this stuff you can't even get exact parts for anymore. If you have to have the exact sound and no one can really make a 1 to 1 clone then its worth it. Something like a DS1? Its not liek they can't make the new ones sound as good, they just can't do it and still sell them at ebginners prices that would shame Behringer. the DS1 has always been one of those super affordable, baby's first distortions. But with a handful of aprts costing about what a new DS1 costs you cna build oen to 80s spec, its notcomplicated or anything. Nothing's discontinued in tehre that I know of and its a simple circuit with ane asy to udnerstand dual opamp setup like all its cousins. I don't think the vast majority of classic designs are worth what they go for.. EHX knows this and offers super-affordable, well-made classic circuits invented by their competitors as does MXR. In fact, MXR's custom badass line is smattered with better-than-vintage Boss circuits. The Distortion is an original sec DS1 with some added features and the OD is an SD1 with extra goodies. both can sound just like the 80s units side by side, i checked. They also can overcome the shortcomings of said units. They are so cheap secondhand these days. My OD cost me MAYBE $40US.
I'm sorry to ehar about your financial woes, I'm leaning over a precipice myself. Need a new gig ASAP or I'll have to thin the herd again. its been awhile. Sorry you lost all your stuff. It stings when that happens.

if tis like a sans amp its probably funky sounding out front of an amp... although Kurt used a sansamp as an OD, hwoever, when i think nice tone I'm not thinking Cobain.

looks like fentanyl poisoning, possibly intentional... shades of my wife, ugh

if you'e looking for a pedalbaord amp to take on the train (tube) and for fly gigs maybe forget about the Palmer Sansamp and power amp combo and check out the Quilter Microblock. I got one just to see and this little guy sounds great. I was surprised. Look it up.

oh defintiely, in the first article someone linked me to on facebook it mentioned a enar conviction on 'air rage' related charges... my industry cotnacted referred to her as 'a flake' who was tempermental, unreliable and probably mentally ill and told a few stories to support that. That guy is a dick (aren't they all) but he had no reason to be fabricating those anecdotes. it was more of a cautionary tale to the guys in my band about how the attractive, talented but mentally ill singer can get your band attention initially and then cause your career to plateau before you make the big bucks. By I soudla lsitened... and I shoulda applied that lesson to my marital decision but when a total major label dickwad is giving you advice you usually tune it out. In the Delores situation I can relate to the bandmates as well as the ex-husband!

try not to make 'passionate' guitar faces? Did you go take singing lessons?
8yover 8 years ago
that's a really sad guitar face... I eman, msot of them are, but I don't even want tot ell you what it looks like you're doing when I cover up your body and guitar with ym ahnd and just ook at that foolish expression

I said this on Facebook, but I'll say it ehre... sad is this is I would not be surprised if tis yet another suicide/overdose thing. I sued to know a major label guy whow as in charge of breaking the Cranberries in teh USA abck in teh 90s and he had soem stories. That band would have been bigger and had more longevity if she weren't mentally ill. not to blame ehr, just saying Iw as not as surprised as most.

well, the professional line of Palmer stuff is VERY well made, like the DIs, load boxes, speaker emualtors... you see them on a lot of professional stages and judging by their DI boxes the stuff is great... they're like Europe's Radial Engineering.
I can't speak to this little Sans Amp line, but I would bet they are all clones of the Tech 21 gear built to Palmer's exacting standards. I mean, why make an inferior version of a product line that's available in Europe already?

I ahd a chance to look it up, seems to be a sans amp style circuit but I would expect it to have hgher quality components from Palmer

Changing a mistyped artist name?
we need an admin, i went into 'edit artist details' for you and I don't think I can change it the way I can change the name of a peice of gear, sorry

I would say a lack of sound quality is the first obstacle to overcome. You can elarn to be a better engiener for yourself (which is a lfie long chore) or you could go book soem studio time if there are still commercial recording studios where you live. I would guess that the weird sonics of your demos are grabbing the attention of the people who you're asking to repost them. They are probably not really lsitening to the music. That's my $.02 anyway, YMMV. bring the clowns sounds a little better comared to the oens with that wall of distortion. Vocal is ebtter delivered and recorded... the acoustic could sue more top end.. whatever. But you should try to keep future stuff at that sonic benchmark. That's about as scrappy as you want things to sound if you're expecting strangers to listen all the way through.

I can't delete that myself but i can get it deleted, give it a sec.

I have no idea about the champ, but I would say 40 solid state watts will be okay... I mean, you can return whatever it is if ts not loud enough at rehearsal... usually you get a week or 2 no questions asked these days.

maybe if you posted your soundcloud address here so we could all swap likes/follows [or whatever they call them] you could also get some objctive feedback on how superior your stuff actually is

have you tried praying? it would help as far as equipboard goes if yhe link on your baord connected to your page but it doesn't, you musta screwed something up

I've not played many reissue supros but i owned a model 24 and ahve played many... even the big oens like the thudnerbolt and statesman have jack shit for ehadroom... they are one trick ponies that have a istinctive blues/rock sound... think Zep 1 or Link Wray's Rumble

hi i am new here please say hi :)
hello new people! welcome... we have a hello thread stickied in the general board and new members generally get a MUCH warmer response when introducing themselves there. The forum gets a bit dead around holidays though.
I would also suggest you get some user pictures. Long time members seem to be cagey with new guys who don't have some sort of avatar. It does make you look transitory.
Best wishes in the new years!

Good and cheap synth? (max 500$)
the microkorg is not even a little bit analog, you're not getting a polyphonic analog synthesizer for udner 500, you might eb able to find a roland MKS50 for about 500. They are getting pricey though... the buy in for analog and polyphonic is as high as ever.
you're not getting all that for 500 bucks unless you wanna menu dive... I have a microkorg, it does all that stuff adequately but it has a shit keyboard and mediocre sound quality (it sounds like the 90s budget VA synth its based on)... but its powerful and versatile. Vocoer is VERY good sounding if you plug a decent mic into it. Its a jack of most trades but master of none. Basically a Korg MS2000 with less knobs. People also love the novation mini nova. Seems to sound a bit better than the korg. for 500 you might be able to buy both used and then sell the one you like less.
if you wanna save up for a little and spend nearly triple but have a synth that will blow your mind every time you start a new patch then try Novations Peak.

analog or digital? if analog, is monophonic okay or do you wanna play chords? do you want like a little 303 type sequencer thing going on? or what? this question is way too broad

Paul McCartney made an experimental Christmas mixtape for the Beatles in 1965:
everyone thinks that John was the experimenter, but everything cool that influenced them (except indian music) was discovered by Paul first... I guess when you write Maxwell's Silver Hammer people stop taking you so seriously, but even on tracks like Rain and Tomorrow Never knows Paulw as itnnovating while Jhn was just tellign Geoff Emmerrick eh wanted to sound like a Tibetan mystic on top of a mountain in the Himalayas...

While I don't have a ton of music production experience, I do have a little. Mainly just from where I have messed around with programs like FruityLoops, Acid Pro, and Abelton.
Acid's still around? I remember when it first came out I somehow cadged a free version and screwed around with it EXTENSIVELY in the late 90s... time stretching without itch change was a BIG deal at the time. Gives me a warm fuzzy feeling thinking about that program.

Behringer tease 11 new synths/drum machines (Synthi?!)
hahaha, I've been born out on a facebook synth group and here on equipboard... proving once and again that Behringer are the worst company yet known by musicians.
