Those are all pretty good. The reading joke wasn't meant to be a real jab or anything. I went to school in a competitive guitar program where high level reading was expected out of all the guitar students but that joke is repeated a lot there. Sometimes I use it as motivation for my students.

A little late to the party, BUT...
How do you get a guitarist to stop playing?
Put music in front of him.
BOOM.

I think you misinterpreted what I was saying. I'm already aware of how to add good photos. Whenever possible my photos are hi-res images with a white background. My point was that there is really common gear that has been posted without good photos and I would like the ability to update them.

Complaints, Concerns, Errors, Suggestions, and Ideas!
SORRY! My first inclination was to post to the individual members HOWEVER after deciding to check with Equipboard on the forums I was told by narcist to post to the band's page.
"For bands, do NOT add the band itself, just the members. Add gear to individual bands"
Seemed a little funny to me but I went with it. But since seeing your correction I will never do that again. Consequently, before seeing that I posted a LOT of gear on the Bad Suns' page. I'm willing to move it all over to the individual band members.
Again, I apologize for incurring anyone's wrath with my gaff.

Some of the photos on here are sub-par. I totally get that some gear is crazy-hard to find and I don't have a major problem with that. I suggest adding the ability to edit gear submissions. Has this been discussed yet?

I added Christo Bowman and Ray Libby of Bad Suns. I was also going to add Gavin Bennett and Miles Morris of the same band.

Ok, I'm not seeing any prompt to link to a band or anything like that. I've added an artist but can't see a way to associate them with their band...

Hey, it's been a while since I've contributed to the site (finishing up school/working/moving). I don't know if it's because I forgot how or if it was never available but how do you add members to band pages? Am I supposed to add gear to band pages or individuals within the band? I'm trying to update a band right now but their page doesn't have any members listed in it.
ALSO
Is it frowned upon to add bands that aren't together anymore? Some of my favorite bands have since DIS-banded (see what I did there?) but I think it would still be cool to post the gear they used where they were with said band.

Keeley electronics pedals-Any good?
I hear you there. Sometimes you can find them for more manageable prices on sites like reverb or ebay. I think that they are absolutely wonderful sounding pedals.

Hey, I'm having difficulty adding a band that I really like. They're called, Our Last Night, and they are very much a verified band. When I went to add them it said that a band of that name already exists on the site but when I looked for them they don't show up anywhere on the site. Some kind of glitch, perhaps?

Keeley electronics pedals-Any good?
I've only played the Red Dirt overdrive and the 4 knob compressor but both of them were AWESOME. You should definitely check them out. They can be hard to find if you don't live in a city without a large music store or two though. Good luck!

Haha, that's awesome! I did pull the trigger on the 2i2 and so far I like it a lot. I still have a few things I want to try with it but there will be a review forthcoming. Thanks again for the suggestions!
11yover 11 years ago
I'm really liking both the 2i2 and the 6. I think it's going to come down to one of those 2 and I'm leaning toward the 2i2.

Awesome diagrams. I'm very visual so that helps a lot haha. I don't think that I would need more than one stereo device at a time. I would probably record one or two guitars at once or one electric piano. My intention is to make high quality recordings mainly for demos/students so I'm not too worried about the number of inputs at this moment in time.

There are a lot of options as far as that goes and I've been reading up on them for a while. To be clear, you are saying that all of these are acceptable hardware interfaces to use for guitar, bass and vocals?
11yover 11 years ago
Both of you, thank you! This is exactly what I'm looking for. I offer expertise on guitar on a daily basis and I feel very uninformed regarding this interface business. Case in point: do you know if any/all of these will record bass in addition to guitar?

Perhaps nobody is going to read this but I'll post anyway. After doing more research (and finding out that M-Audio no longer makes the Fast Track Pro) I'm not sold completely. Also, I'm intrigued by the Apogee Duet (1 or 2). It's out of the original price range I said but I'm a firm believer in saving up if it will make a big difference to you. Any thoughts, please?

I had the opportunity to borrow an M-Audio Fast Track Pro last night. I really liked it from what I can tell and I'm thinking of getting my own. Anybody have any thoughts? It seems like it captured the sound of my guitar pretty well. My telecaster was a bit noisier but I think that's more a product of my pickups than the Fast Track. My Comins semi-hollow sounded great through it (with custom Florance pickups, it better). I just ran it through garageband so I was limited in the distortion sounds department. All of that stuff is secondary to capturing the best sound and bringing it into the DAW, correct?

Thanks for the suggestion, simfonik. I'm not against a mixer as long as it can function in that capacity and sound good plugged into a mac.

As much as I would love to record my Mesa, I don't live in a location where that's really possible haha. I would like to go from guitar to AI. Sorry if I was unclear.
11yover 11 years ago
Hi all, I have always been more of a live sound gear head than someone who records. I'm not necessarily looking to start my own home studio as that takes a lot of time and money, but I am looking to purchase a decent AI for my guitar (and PERHAPS a microphone). I want to be able to make high quality demos and such. Any advice on what to use? I have a Samson G Track which is decent for acoustic guitar, podcasts, and that's about it (SO much extra noise, unless I'm just not getting it). I want to be able to record my electric guitars without an amp in the middle. If possible I'd like to keep it in the $50-$300 range. Ok go.
*edit: I forgot that I own an iMac and and iPhone for what it's worth.

I'm guessing that "value" is somewhat interchangeable with "budget-friendly" haha. I second the Blues Junior, although I had the transformer modded on mine. I also think the stock Jensen speaker can be a bit of an ice pick in the ear. The one I had was swapped out for a Cannabis Rex from Eminence. Other amps less than $800 include the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe Western Edition and Orange Tiny/Dark Terror. For home use the THR10 is a fantastic deal. I love the smaller amps, but I do play on a MESA dual recto currently. Spent $1K but feel it was a good purchase. So I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder.
If you're willing to come off the tube amp train there are some very affordable options that sound good in the realm of solid state amplification.

NAMM 2015 – What new gear are you most excited about?
That new prophet sounds amazing.
From what I've been reading I'm really excited about the BOSS ES-8 although I can't talk myself into buying it anytime soon. It sounds like the answer to 1,000,000 pedalboard woes.
The shop I work at is, among other things, a Yamaha dealer. Naturally, I'm pretty pumped to play a higher-end Pacifica model. I know a lot of people who read this might laugh but the Pacifica is pretty popular overseas and I'm eager to find out for myself. If the PAC611HFM is as good as some say, my customers will have a more affordable alternative to pricey electrics.
I'm really looking forward to what is to come.

Thank you both for responding to my questions. I'll keep that in mind when I start posting new gear. Also, is it acceptable to post equipment that artists have used in the past (that I can confirm) but no longer use? Thanks for the compliment, I'm glad to be here!

Hi, I'm very new to the site and consequently I have a few questions regarding posting new gear. I really like what I've seen so far and I want to contribute. Is the central idea to share the gear of the pros or for everyone to network and share what they own? Perhaps both. I have a bunch of gear that isn't listed on the site and I'm not sure if any pros are currently using it. Can/should I list it? In regards to photos of the gear, should I be taking my own photos or is it ok to grab something professional from the manufacturer's site or a dealer like MF? Again, I'm stoked to be a part of this community and want to help it grow.

Thanks for kind words! I work at a guitar store which has given me the opportunity to use a lot of gear. I know most people don't get amped for a compressor video, but I'm a gear nut and can't help it...

Really good suggestions. Each person will hear something different but the 2 I like are...
Keeley 4 Knob Compressor
JHS Pulp 'N' Peel
If you don't want to spend that much on one of those I don't think you can go wrong with an MXR Dyna Comp. Again, it's all about personal preference. 1st post BTW. Hi everybody.
