Mike's ProMark drumsticks are discussed on the FAQ section of his site
"These new signature sticks are slightly heavier and slightly longer than my 420's…with a wood tip (instead of nylon)…and are also finished with Pro Mark's new "Active Grip" finish (in black) which helps for a better grip. I still use my 420's for my more progressive bands, but now use my 420X's for my more hard rock/metal bands."
During the DVD commentary for Live at Tokyo, Mike points out that the kit being used for the show is his first professional one, a Tama Imperialstar. Given the time period, it would've been made in Japan and of notably higher quality than the current production line, but still an economical kit given the history.
