When you're on eBay, and I search Fender Telecaster, and people try selling "Fender Squire Telecaster", and I'm annoyed because come one, I said Fender, not Squire.
Same for GIbson, people like to sell "Gibson Epiphone SG", and come on, Epiphone is different, please act like it. I know they're the same company, but you're making our eBay experience a pile of shit.

Strange... I remember submitting gear based on a picture of the guitarist in studio with his gear...
Ah well, time to spam EB with new gear.

Incorrect submission, and very lazy. The photo included in the site shows a Bassman 300 Pro.

Previous submitter was lazy. Needs capitalization, probably a bigger picture as well.

OK, taking a look at zome relatively cheap guitars, but this one has me stumped.
Epiphone Classic-T is up there in the Epi range, or Gibson Studio? Both Les Paul's, but I already have a really good idea what I'm getting, I'm just playing the waiting game and getting some much needed knowledge.
I've only heard about these, but look a Black Beauty, weith TWO humbuckers, not the usual three. Epiphone dictates this as a pretty damn good guitar, but your opinion?

Isn't this a rack effect? Kinda like this: http://equipboard.com/items/fractal-axe-fx-ii-guitar-effects-processor
So that should either go in the same category as an Axe Fx, or it's a stright up effect in a rack.

Also, scrawny necks kill sustain.
Care to elaborate?
Oh, I forgot to say, I tried the Blacktop Telecaster. It looks a little bit different when you look at it, but It has a surprisingly nice feel to it. I can't imagine why, but there's one used for I think was $300. I can't remember, but that's definitely on my list of guitars I might get. Definitely has that workhorse feel to it, but Virgil still the original workhorse for sure.
Also, weight played a big role. The smaller ones, I can't seemed to handle. Those Les Pauls really weigh down, I kinda like it.
11yalmost 11 years ago
18, currently.
I just came back, and the strip's even worse than I thought, homeless are everywhere, and the prostitutes are showing up more often.
Anyways, the pawn shops weren't very fruitful, but the Hollywood GC was. Les Pauls do well,a nd the sound is fantastic. Teles are OK, but I think there's something about the neck that isn't working out. I noticed it with some strats and others, the thinner the neck, the worse.
I did however find a gem. Not a guitar, but a used Pedaltrain-1 with a hard shell case for $40. It's on layaway at the moment, but I consider this a good day.
Try one out at the store, specifically on the bridge pickup. It is worth every penny
I tried a few, but the ones with humbuckers simply sang more than single coils. I can't imagine why, but everytime I played a single-coil, all I heard was a really thin sound.

Sorry, we had to reschedule, had some cousins over.
Bad news: I didn't get to go to Pasadena Guitar Centre
Good News: My dad has the day off tomorrow, so we're cruising Hollywood in all its distasteful glamour. I'll watch out for those pawn shops as well.

You know this reminds me of, now that I think of it?
11yalmost 11 years ago
I would play this guitar if it felt good and sounded right.
Haha, get yourself a .strandberg* guitar, it suits the weight, if that's as light as it looks.
I'm going to the Hollywood GC tomorrow, so I got time to relax about all this.
Goddamn, those guitars are beautiful.
http://www.normandyguitars.com/alumicaster/
And that... see, if I had the money, I'd buy that with Symour Duncans anyday, but the Trussart guitars have me by the balls, It's like seeing a Fender for the first time in your life, then seeing how many other models there are.

Can't use a very high-output, also, I need an HH design.
From the guitars you've suggested, I've got a good idea of what I might get. The Tele build is also an option, but damn, that's going to be a lot of work, but definetely going to aim towards my needs, hopefully; Unless, of course, you think It's better I use Gibson/Epiphone baseball necks.

People who try and sell low quality instruments at prices that are higher than they paid for them.
THIS
eBay is the worst offender. Someone can sell a Metal Zone for around $20, and then there's this arse:
11yalmost 11 years ago
But that's orange, not red...
Looks like a fattened Strat. That's the only Takamine on eBay for cheap, though. Personally, even though the sound might be good, I discriminate body shapes and colours.
I'd consider it, though. And what's with the seller, he really got freaky with the Shift key.

Yup, still standing proudly, but I've never actually gone inside. Hollywood is a scary place. They want you to think that It's a place with celebrities and stuff, but those guys in costumes and the homeless littering the streets like trash, It's a bit sickening to me.
Pawn shops? I've been in one, and that was in Downtown LA, everything was either unusable, or behind a massive glass wall, and the people there stare at you behind the glass as if they expect you to pick something up and walk out. Pretty sure one of'em had a shotgun under the counter.
11yalmost 11 years ago
1) what kind of music do you plan to play with it or do you need a jack of all trades?
2) what kind of amp are you using?
3) what's your build?
OK, here goes (even though this may have been answered already):
1) I'm playing mostly rock, and hard rock, but I also do ambient work.
2) http://www.kustom.com/Content/20102/KG100HFX.jpg
Kustom KG100HFX and KG 4x12
This is not mine, but my friend in the band intends to buy it, and we share amps. He had an old Behringer that we would use, but thank God he's getting a real half-stack.
3) I'm 5' 8''. I'm skinny, but I can handle heavy hardware. As for my hands, well they're just as skinny. If it helps, my hand stretches 8 and 1/4 from the base of my hand to the top of the middle finger.

Around the Los Angeles area. The Guitar Centre's here aren't all that bad. They're I've visited about four of them, and usually, the employees say hi, ask if I need help, and if I say no, they simply wish me luck. The smaller shops are scary, though. The employees there are on top of you, staring at your every move, it's really scary.
I'll probably need that 7 day shipping, especially after the last guitar I bought... an Ibanez Jem Jr... God, the tone on that thing was terrible, good thing I can return.

Yes. Well, not the URL, I know the URL is always lower-cased. But on the forum or the main feed (front page of EB), I am wondering about that.

You make a good point, but the job is still quite daunting.
Anyways, from the hundreds of suggestions by Jim: https://reverb.com/item/605998-gibson-les-paul-studio-1996-wine-red https://reverb.com/item/321030-gibson-the-paul-les-paul-firebrand-deluxe-1981-silver https://reverb.com/item/885641-gibson-les-paul-studio-1992-black Because even though I want a work horse, I want a work horse that looks HAUGHT
80's Takamine solid-bodies.... just saiyan
If you can find a reasonable Takamine that would be appropriate in a church and that I can afford, then yes. Otherwise, I can't even consider those guitars, amazing as they are.
I really like the 90's Ibanez RG Series that are made in Japan. Humbuckers, fast necks, solid tone, and they are usually in great condition. They can go for 400-500 usually. With the other 500, you could invest in a little stack or keep saving for a tube head.
I'm sure the RG series is good, but I think you misunderstood what kind of guitar I want / need. Ibanez has really polarised me because of the shapes, too intense and metal-ish, and the sound, which is even fiercer. That's not what I'm looking for, but I appreciate the advice.
GET THE ONE THAT FEELS GOOD IN YOUR HANDS.
I actually thought about this. I'm going to Guitar Centre anyways, so I think I can try out and take note of a few guitars there and come back with results and start crossing out some guitars.

What was your first instrument purchase?
First instrument was a violin, God knows who made those things but it was a beautiful violin that, at my elementary school age, put me straight to sleep. I really do regret not practising, I have a host of instruments that I want to play, and I've only gotten good on one so far, but I digress!
So, the first guitar I actually got for myself was not "bought", it was found. Our church pastors were moving to a new venue after the old one sort started problems due to sharing with some white folks (We're mostly latinos). So, the people who volunteer in church most spent an entire day cleaning this pile of shit that was a church once, and only just occupied by some others. So, I went into the nursery and lo' and behold, I found this one: http://images.equipboard.com/uploads/gear_photo/image/2614/xl_r5Ssq5L.jpg
It was much different before, but I grabbed him, threw him in my mum's car, and have been using him these past few years. Unfortunately, he's been abused, so I've been looking into buying a new guitar, then putting money into repairing him.
Appropriately, he's been dubbed "Virgil", after the poet himself, specifically from Dante's tale.
11yalmost 11 years ago
Pet peeve I have, which is pretty common: guitarists who start wanking on their guitar, and I go to ask them a question, and they either outright ignore me as if they're "in the zone" or they look up and stare at me with these dead eyes and keep playing.
It's creepy, and it happens to a lot of fellow guitarists I know, and it annoys the hell out of me.

You know, I remember someone who referred to a tele he had as a Parts Telecaster. I never understood until recently what I think it means. I think the saddle and pickups were replaced, hence the name Parts.
Unfortunately, I don't have the skill to build a guitar from scratch (I'd love to, though. I probably have the tools). I've always relied on a local shop that does repairs as well as the Guitar Centres' around the area.
