Who All Plays Bass with 3-Finger Plucking Techniques?

Clifford, if you don't mind me asking, what is it about 2-finger technique that isn't working for you?

You mentioned Matteo Mancuso, a guitarist, and if you're open to looking at guitarist for 3-finger inspiration, why not dive into classical guitar, where 3-fingers, plus thumb is the standard? You'd have another century's worth of material to consume.

Who All Plays Bass with 3-Finger Plucking Techniques?

Gary Willis, because of course. Gary's jazz/fusion-focused techniques are probably exactly what you're referring to when complain about 3-finger technique videos not being useful/relevant to you. (I recall you liking the heavy stuff more than the jazzy stuff)

EDIT: The other obvious ones are Les Claypool and Robert Trujillo.

yes, I think so

Yay thank you so much. I’m sure if you looked up some of bloodbaths live preformances you could get some good pics. I will keep digging and if I find any better pics I will send them. Once again thank you so much.

My pleasure. If you find better pics, I believe you'd be able to Edit the item and add those pics yourself. If the system says you don't have permissions yet, it will surely let you once you cross 500 gear IQ points.

This is for an artist. The submission is for Anders Nyström of the Swedish band Bloodbath.

Bummer. I was hoping you owned one, so we could finally get a decent picture. There is almost NOTHING about ES Guitars online any more, as I'm sure you're aware. Even the wayback machine didn't have any decent pics of their guitars archived.

Anyway, here you go:

Mods, could you please add the following item? Thanks!

Javier Laion Custom-built Microtonal Electric Guitar:

https://www.instagram.com/p/CoUdhNFOB-T/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y%3D

Looks like you just joined us this month. Welcome!

That microtonal Stu is holding in the picture looks amazing -- it's somehow Musicman-esque, Gibson-esque, and Fender-offset-esque all at the same time. A great win for this Javier Laion guy.

I'm under orders to limit the number of "1 of 1" custom guitars that get added to the database, even if they're awesome.

That said, we love King Gizzard here at Equipboard, and I want to give that guitar's builder some more exposure.

So, a compromise: keep going, flesh out your profile, make some more submissions, make yourself at home. If you're still here and having a good time in a month, ping this thread again and I'll bend the rules a tiny bit and add it for you, gladly.

Fair?

(FYI, this whole thing of having to ask for permission to add rare/discontinued items goes away once you cross 500 Gear IQ points... the Admins added this stipulation so that new folks have to take a Twix-break and learn the ropes before adding crazy stuff to the database)

yeah. Is that wrong? I've seen other guitars of the same model have different colors being listed separately.

It's not wrong to want the picture of the guitar in your profile to match the color you actually have IRL.

I'm supposed to tell you to use the existing entry and not worry about the color, because that's better for the database, artist stats, SEO, etc.

But if this guitar was still being sold new at Sweetwater, you could add a database entry for each color without even asking permission.

This is why you see so many different guitars here with an entry for each color.

So all that said... check your profile inventory next time you get a chance...

Yeah I know, their lineup of the mid 2010s was a total mess! And even the actual lineup, in my opinion, is a huge mess. They need to semplify. Anyway my guitar is a les Paul studio 2016T, the only difference is the finish, that is vintage sunburst and not the one that you can see on the 2016T category on Reverb. And yes, the “T” always stand for “traditional” on the entire studio lineup. If you can swap the picture, it would be great! Ahah

I re-purposed an entry that was abandoned by the OP.

Ha! The darkness isn't the problem so much as the lack of any sun during the times you're NOT working.

A lot of us would get pretty depressed (like me) if they had no solar exposure for weeks at a time.

I've had night-shift jobs before - I get a little weird if I don't get a few good minutes of sun each day... but some people are just fine.

Image: [https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/LPSTUVSCH--gibson-les-paul-studio-2016-traditional-vintage-sunburst-chrome-hardware]

OK, I've been trying to educate myself on the mess that is the Gibson product lineup of the mid 2010s. It would be cruel and ignorant of me to say something like "no wonder they went bankrupt"... but this is what I keep thinking as I try to piece together what database entries make sense for the LP Studios... "Faded T" LP Studio? WFT?

Question: Reverb has a dedicated category for the Gibson Les Paul Studio "T" 2016. Is this your axe? Or does the T not stand for "Traditional" here? Either way, let me know. If it's you, I'll add this and swap the picture for your finish. If not, I'll just make a new entry... but if we can keep it linked to a Reverb category, that's a good thing.

My German is kinda broken :(
But I would love to move to Sweden at some point, tons of tech stuff there (including music (such as Nord, Elektron, ...))

Yep, and Teenage Engineering, Reason Studios, Toontrack and a host of others. Spotify also employs a ton of Engineers, and they've done some hardware projects too. Lots of studios and producers in Stockholm as well. It's a great place to be creative. A colleague of mine moved from Los Angeles to Stockholm years ago to work for the Reason folks, he really liked it there. I visited him a few times, great place if you can handle the long stretches of darkness.

Chat AI are really good with theory, but really crappy with practice.

Yeah, even with simple javascript, it can't quite keep enough lines of code in persistent memory to architect anything complex... you can put it to work writing small user stories/pieces of a solution with good results, but you have to control the architecture... I haven't tried, but I bet it's particularly bad at the memory management stuff in C++... but next month, who knows? It could barely do anything a year ago.

I live in East France / close to Luxembourg & Germany. What about you?

Oh that's tough... way too long of a train ride to Berlin, where all the action is. If you lived in Berlin, you'd be set. Do you speak any German?

I live near downtown Los Angeles. I did not grow up here, but I really like it here. It's always nice to live in a "music city" like Stockholm, Berlin, Austin, London, Los Angeles, Nashville, etc.

Yes, the entry would be form my personal profile. I think that the year is important, because from 2018, the vintage sunburst color was slightly different. (https://kytary.it/gibson-les-paul-studio-2018-vintage-sunburst/HN182583/)

Yuck, they ruined it in 2018. (no offense to anyone that owns one, they're still awesome, I'm sure).

And 2016 was the first year in which a les Paul studio with this color has been made

Well, congrats on getting a great color that was only offered for 2 years.

I'll have to think about this one. We have too many LP Studio entries already, but I totally appreciate that you want an entry that has this exact color in your profile. I'll figure something out.

Wow, LP Studios are so much better looking now... back in the 90s they were mostly seen this glossy wine-wash kind of color.

How important is the "2016" date in the title? I know Sweetwater lists the year for this model in some cases, but are they really that different year-to-year? I'm under orders to cut down on the number of entries in the database where the product just differs by color or model year.

This entry would be for your personal profile, not an artists submission, correct?

Equipboard's YouTube Channel

It is A LOT of work to make a Youtube video, and anyone who can write and then perform their way through a script while squinting into an LED loop light deserves my respect, and more importantly, they HAVE my respect.

That said, you could remove the few mentions of Equipboard from the start of these videos, and they could 100% be added to anyone's musical instrument channel.

However good they may be, why produce videos that anyone could make, about products that already have a dozen such videos each already on Youtube?

I'd love to see some videos that leaned on these 2 things:

  1. They reenforce the Equipboard brand and ooze a strong sense of self.

  2. Even if they are covering topics already covered on YT, they do so from a unique angle that only Equipboard could credibly pull off.

I don't mean to imply that executing on any of that would be easy... this stuff is hard... really hard.

No Livid CNTRL:R? Codanova VMX v64!

Yeah, I'm aware of that, and I had tried to do it in C++ at first, but I've not that much experience in C++, and I couldn't get just a basic thing with midi working in C++.
Apparently I miss some DLLs, but there are no ways to be found, and the documentation is quite poor about that.
C# is also way easier, but yeah, it was made by Microsoft. Would work on Linux, but no clues about Mac.
I really want to make it in C++, but it's a true challenge to just get a midi lib to work.

I worked for years at a .Net company, I get it... but the best Engineers I worked with never balked at taking on new languages, they used the language that best fit the project aims and time available. If you don't have time constraints, I bet a combination of a good online coding community and a good Chat AI could get you over the hump with C++.

Depending on the part of France you live in, you may also be able to befriend someone with domain expertise in MIDI driver development. You'd be surprised how generous the most brilliant professional Engineers can be if your project interests them.

I am saying this because you said you have professional aspirations in this regard. If you were just messing around, I wouldn't be such a prescriptive jerk about it.

2yabout 2 years ago

No Livid CNTRL:R? Codanova VMX v64!

But for MIDI drivers I can kinda use anything, but I'll use C# because it's compiled, and it's quite a fast language (super fast compared to interpreted languages such as Python, JavaScript, ..., but still slower than C++ / C / ASM).

Wouldn't this be a good opportunity to go full C++ and make a driver for real?

Hard to do a Mac version with .Net, no?

It's all fixed!!!
https://imgur.com/a/EKrULl9
It's all 100% functional Just have to fix the foots, and the decals. I'm also gonna work on a driver, because some stuff are wrongly recognized (and most importantly, a remote surface for Ableton).

Outstanding. I'm impressed :)

What's your experience with driver development?

There's a few models that have been added, but the Ilumina Standard, Ilumina+, Satya Standard, Satya+, Ren, Ilumina Standard with Trem, Materia Standard wth Trem, and Satya Standard with Trem are some models that have not been, and most of their models come in 6, 7, and 8 string. The linked picture is an Ilumina+ on reverb, there is a GOC website that has info on each of the models that they've released.

Here's that last link, the Ren seems to be excluded since it's been discontinued https://www.gocguitars.com/guitars

If you work for or own GOC Guitars, Inc.? If so, let us know.

If you need a specific model added because you own that specific guitar, I can add it for you.

If you are trying to make an artist submission, and the model you need is missing, I can add that model for you.

... but keep in mind you're asking an unpaid volunteer to do this work, not the owners of Equipboard. I agree it would be cool to have every product from ever manufacturer ever on this site, but I have better things to do with my time than add dozens of models just for the sake of completeness.

EDIT: I'm sorry if that sounds a bit harsh, I know you're just trying to spread the good word about a unique guitar brand. Once your gear score is up over 500, which happens way faster than you think, you'll be able to add every last model yourself -- no more need to come here and ask favors.

Power metal lead synth sound

Ha! I'm glad you clarified. I am obviously ignorant as to the use of keyboards in these strains of metal.

Looking into the Jens sound, though, it seems the JV1080 and (to a lesser extent) the DX7II, both through a distortion like the Morley JD10, played a big role through a good chunk of his career. If the albums in which he used that setup are what you're after, that shouldn't be too hard to recreate. What have you already tried on this front? Have you tried the Roland JV-1080 cloud VST through a guitar tone plugin like NI Guitar Rig yet?
