New Artists Signature Fender Guitar Models
Also Kurt Cobain's Vandalism Strat.
Fender already has 2 Cobain models currently in production, but it IS odd that they've never attempted a Cobain Strat, given how often he was seen on TV and in the studio with them. People have been making and selling custom Vandalism and K-Records Strat replicas for years now. It honestly blows my mind how popular Nirvana is with people who were born well after Cobain died. He's been the most popular Artist on Equipboard for years now.
The important thing on this one, for me at least, is that Fender get the neck REALLY right. The neck specs were the main reason Cobain bought lefty Fender Japan Strats instead of lefty Mexico or USA Strats.
Per Guitar Player Magazine interview, 1991:
"Lately, I’ve been using a Strat live, because I don’t want to ruin my Mustang yet. I like to use Japanese Strats because they’re a bit cheaper, and the frets are smaller than the American version’s."
Fender sells plenty of HSS Strats at all price points, there is no point in making yet another HSS Strat with modern specs, and just slapping a sticker and some fake relic-ing on it.
...but an HSS Strat with a great vintage-spec neck, available in both right and lefthand versions, WOULD be something special. I doubt Fender has ever sold anything like that in the US at any point in its history... finally doing so would demonstrate appropriate respect for why Kurt was willing to use use these (then) brand-new guitars in his otherwise-vintage lineup.
Most of the late 80's and early 90's product out of Fender Japan that I've seen featured vintage 7.25" radius necks with small (narrow & short) vintage frets. The factories that Fender partnered with to form Fender Japan had specialized in making killer un-licensed reproductions of golden-age Fender guitars and basses, and it seems they stuck with more or less 50s and 60s spec necks on everything for the first decade of officially-licensed production. Reverb seems to back this up in their description paragraph for the ST-62 lefty .
Fender Mexico doesn't make any lefty necks with vintage specs, so I think a GOOD Vandalism Strat would have to come either from Fender Japan or Fender's USA Custom Shop. I vote for this being a Fender Japan product, as that's where the original Cobain Strats came from.
As for the huge "Vandalism: Beautiful as a rock in a cop's face" sticker, it's a must, you can't whiff on the sticker and still call it the Cobain Vandalism Strat. The challenge here is whether or not Fender can get away with producing a product that says such a thing without incurring the wrath of Police-unions and anyone with a cop in their family. Fender are a big-ass corporation these days, probably pretty risk-averse -- it's unlikely they want to incur all the negative press/controversy such a move might stir up. It's their right to just not want to go there, or to not want to sell a product that explicitly promotes violence.
3 possible approaches to the Vandalism sticker:
Sell it with a sticker that is 100% accurate to the original sticker and wording, but place a removable cling decal over the last line of the phrase for when the guitars are hanging on the wall in music shops. They can put some patriotic 1st amendment and American flag/bald eagle stuff on the cover-decal. Maybe that appeases enough folks?
Sell it with a perfectly-mounted repro sticker that says "Vandalism" up top, but the rest of the sticker is blank/pure white. They can include a big sheet of black letter decals, so you can spell out whatever crazy thing you want to say in the remaining space on the sticker.
Sell it with a removable static-cling sticker the same size and placement as the actual Vandalism sticker, that says "Vandalism: More beautiful than this shameless corporate cash-grab"... and you can either leave it on if you think Kurt would appreciate that message in this context, or you can peel it off and put on a perfect repro sticker you buy off Etsy or wherever.
Anyway... my 2 cents. I added it to the list.
UPDATE 1: This dude on Youtube has discovered what I'm talking about re: Fender Japan necks.
UPDATE 2: Also, looks like he pegged the black Strat as an ST-362. Damn, get this dude on Equipboard, he's good.

Oh sorry, misread that. Pre-coffee posting is bad posting. He should have one and there should be a Richard Lloyd strat too :( when I saw them they both were using lipsticks in strats through ac30 reissues. Killer tone.
I thought Shields had a signature model for awhile? Maybe I'm wrong.
They did a signature pedal, but no signature guitar yet, AFAIK.

Why are different colors / finishes now listed as duplicates ?
So, we're going to consolidate colors down to one model so that we can make the connection of who plays what so that people can find it better, then add finish/color data back.
OMG yes!!!!!

I'm impressed that people care about Television enough that Tom Verlaine got a signature jazzy. As a kid only me and a few friends knew about them and not all of those friends liked them.
But he didn't get one, I'm saying he SHOULD get one.
(Per the OP's question)
I'm thinking and affordable Mexico-factory model with a bound Jazzmaster neck, a natural matte-finish Jazzmaster body, but with 3 lipstick pickups in a Strat configuration, and a Strat hardtail bridge.
Also, fender needs to come out with a "modern" Jazzmaster bridge that somehow avoids violating the Mastery Bridge patent, but improves on the original's flaws in a similar way.

It's OK to have one entry for the original and one for the reissue. Typically, there is a huge price difference between the value of the original instrument/amp and the reissue, so they would be treated as different items on Reverb(dot)com. How does Reverb(dot)com handles these items?

Suggestions for redesigning our Product Pages
Reviews first. Just bgg because an artist is spotted with something doesn't mean they turn it on frequently.
Any ideas on how to make Reviews on EB more distinct/special? You know I go hard on my reviews when I write them (as do you), but for the top 100 or so items on the site, I feel like the top reviews are often pretty vanilla... not much different than you'd see on Sweetwater, Amazon or Google, and EB is going to have way fewer reviews than those places, in most cases.
Do we need something like a "featured review"... like a real prize/honor for writing reviews that set this site apart?... beyond just some gear IQ points?

I like the overall direction this is headed, especially that fact that there's more breathing room/less clutter up above the fold.
Granular notes on the Sidebar:
(you're free to ignore these, of course, I'm just one jerk among thousands)
Listing the Price Tier Category in the sidebar seems redundant, IMHO... better to make the sidebar even cleaner. The price range is right there above it, either that price range is too expensive for the person viewing or it's not. I get why you're applying these tier categories now, but where you have it in full detail above retailer comparisons feels like the right place to introduce the concept.
"We compare 600+ plus stores..." isn't necessary to mention, better to make the sidebar even cleaner. Whatever you're really doing here, Google is likely doing way more, without having to explain what's going on. Google this same MXR M169, they'll give you over 100 stores with stocking info, price + shipping, etc... EB is only ever going to list the affiliate stores, right?... this is totally fine, just maybe not necessary to try and sell what's going on. It's self-explanatory.
The SAVE button has always seemed kind of odd to me. I only ever want to do 2 things 1. Add to my Wishlist or 2. Add to my Equipboard. Every time I go to add something to my board or wishlist, I have to remind myself that the "Save" button with the bookmark icon is where this action lives. Having 2 buttons here, instead of one, would be better, I think: one dedicated to Wishlist and one for adding to your own Equipboard. For users who haven't signed up yet, this reinforces how Equipboard works... on top of the uniqueness of getting to build your own EB, the Wishlist here is rad too: on Amazon you can't build a wishlist with vintage or direct-only stuff, only new stuff... on Reverb(dot)com the favorites are more for keeping tabs on items you might want to put in an offer on... so EB is my one true gear Wishlist.

This misuse of the word is taking away the real value from what it means to be an Artist. Honestly if we are considering this, you guys should stop using the word.
When you say "you guys" you realize that Eyesee and I are non-employee volunteers, right? We don't get to decide such things.
It's a fair point though. Lots of industries are going through this right now. In sports like running, running influencers who can barely finish a race are often getting way bigger contracts from Nike and Adidas than dedicated, talented athletes who consistently finish top 5... dedicating yourself to your sport doesn't leave much time for building a lucrative and engaged audience on Instagram.

I found this
https://equipboard.com/pros/steve-reis/
This guy is a youtuber... some new guy (https://equipboard.com/andrewnelsonforreal) added like to get points and stuff.
If we are going to rate and add youtubers and influencers, ima add a lot of people.
It's 2024 Yoshi; the "new" community member you saw fit to call out joined in 2020.
More importantly, they didn't do anything wrong by adding a YouTuber. You imply that this YouTuber was only added to get someone some points, and not because anyone actually likes them... but, again, it's 2024; Rick Beato's profile on EB has like 87 followers.
If the YouTubers you want to add exist on the MusicBrainz database, and they are people you are genuinely excited about and think others might be too, AND none of these YouTubers have the same social security # as you, then you're free to add them, as far as I'm concerned.
FWIW, the Admins have added all kinds of social media personalities over the past few years.

I got a great Idea, but it might be a lot of Programming When there is an Item / Gear in different Colors, Variants ... and you Add Pictures to it, it might be cool , you can freeze the picture , like for an Artist the Guitar is not red , its black , so you freeze the black picture of it and other can freeze the red picture, when they got the red color.
I love this idea, mostly because it's very similar to an idea I've been pushing for years:
Let each user choose which item photo is displayed when that item is in their own Equipboard.
E.g., If I have a Fender Player Jaguar in my Equipboard, and the default picture is Black, but I own one that is Candy Apple Red, I can upload a picture in Candy Apple Red to that item entry, and make that the default view for my personal Equipboard, while the item still shows the Black picture as default everywhere else.
This would greatly reduce the number of people who want/need to add "duplicate" entries with a different color, so that the color they see in their Equipboard matches what they own in real life. Personally, I feel it is very important that people's instruments look true-to-life in their own Equipboard, as people are often very attached to the colors they selected, and I want people to feel proud about their page and excited to show it off to others... but I also love data and organizing data, and it drives me crazy to have a review for a black Fender Player Strat is in one place and a review for the exact same guitar in white in a totally different, non-related place in the database... or to know that nobody is going to know that an artist uses a certain pair of headphones or certain brand of studio monitors if they are spotted with an item in a limited-run color, because then it's likely to get logged as a totally separate item that will get buried at the bottom of the search results.
As for selecting a new default image ("freeze") for each Artist Equipboard, as you propose, I don't think the Artist context is as important as letting individual community members choose colors for their own pages, but it would certainly be nice to have this for Artist pages too. Especially when an Artist is associated with a certain color/finish instrument.

A more granular suggestion: provide an "Add Video" button that whisks users with the appropriate permissions to that section of the Edit Item Description page?

I simply want to add videos or video links to gear that doesn't have a video yet. There are some great items that I know very well and they are already on equip board but they don't have any videos linked yet. How can I link videos to the gear items?
Go to "Edit Gear Details" > scroll down to "Item Videos" > "Add Video".
Once you upload the video and save the change, the video doesn't always show up right away, but it will eventually show up.

Is there a place we can request reviews for our submissions?
Best way to get your stuff reviewed is to find someone who is posting a lot recently, and review their stuff for them... if they're a decent human being, they'll return the favor.
That said, I just reviewed everything that you've got up that didn't have a look yet.

Suggestions for redesigning our Product Pages
- 1. What's your favorite thing about Equipboard's product pages?
X ARTISTS USE THIS . Nobody else has anything else like this.
- 2. What's your biggest problem with Equipboard's product pages?
My biggest problem is that the focus seems to be on things Google and Amazon can already do just as well, and the unique perspective and context that only Equipboard can provide (verified Artists and community pedal board photos) is too far down the scroll.
- 3. What's a feature we could add to improve it to make it the best page on the internet for music gear?
Bring Artist cards up top, closer to the main item image, and sort those Artists by POPULAR, so Mk.gee or whoever is hot this month is shown, instead of like... Porter Robinson or Martin Garrix.
Get rid of the little row of additional photos underneath the main item image, as you can't tell at all what you're going to get until you click on them, they are slow, and the photos that are really sexy are just re-prints from the Community Gear Photos section... so just bring up the Community gear photos. Give us one strip of Artists cards at a good/big size, and then just below that, a strip of community gear photos cards in the same size... like I'm browsing for movies on Netflix... just a strip I can scroll left/right with and whiz through like 50 in short order.
What is going to make me want to buy a pedal: the fact that it has 4.5 stars, 5 reviews, and is available at 3 stores, or the fact that Thom @#$%ing Yorke has one and all these people on the site with badass super-thoughtful pedal boards full of expensive stuff ALSO choose to give that pedal precious space? These are things EB can put front and center that nobody else can provide, that lean into the fact that MI gear purchase psychology is somewhere between buying candy and the fashion industry, rather than the Wirecutter/Consumer Reports approach that works well for toasters and TVs, but doesn't work well for something you're going to impulse-buy because it's just small enough and just cheap enough to sneak it past your wife, and you feel like adding it to the pedal board in your man cave will make you feel happy and complete as a human being for at least 5 whole minutes.

Ah OK , No add at all, we need a correction I disagree then too Yea to get Users not to Add the Version will be hard, we will end up with a lot of Entries are the Same Software and will be hard to add to an artist and we will end up with a lot of different Software Versions , are the same Tool and then added here and there to different Artists.
Thanks for giving this topic further consideration. You're doing great work here on this thread, but it's important that you understand the reasonings for why this Add Item Request thread exists in the first place, and why we can't always give each user exactly what they ask for.
For years, every new user could add any item they wanted, and things became a mess, and Google started to penalize this site in their search rankings for having so many pages that linked to only one or two users or one or two Artists... things aren't perfect now, but they are better.

You are the Mod ? Can I add it ?
The fact that you're asking leads me to believe that you didn't understand the reasons I laid out in my reply to the user.
I think the Version does not matter , its all Cubase 3.0 the up or downgrade someone does on software would be too hard to track.
"3.0" is the version. "3.0" is the part that we're trying to train users to not add.
I think we should add it.
Obviously, I disagree.
Also when its retro software and today might be not used normally, it is still to find in history
I'm not asking the user to not list their software, I'm asking them to list it as "Steinberg Cubase" not "Steinberg Cubase 3.0".
and some Nerds might still searching for such software , for exsample in Japan there is hughe retro tec and software industry and consumer group too.
What are the odds that I too am into retro technology? Is it possible that I know what I'm talking about here?
Do you understand why we want users to list their DAWs as "Ableton Live" rather than "Ableton Live 9" or "Apple Logic Pro" instead of "Apple Logic Pro 11"? It's important to understand why we are asking this.

what’s your favourite synth you own?
Same exact mixer. Different colored knobs. I think the 24 channel topaz project 8 has a slightly more robust PSU than the the 24 channel topaz with pastel knobs, but the 32s are the same. I think a few caps are higher voltage in the project 8 but the supplied schematics don't indicate thus. The project 8 is newer and may not require immediate service. Incidentally, the solo series are also identical except for the modular construction and semi-discrete microphone preamps (topazes are equipped with an SSM preamp-on-a-chip, the solo pres are probably just a different flavor of so-so, like most soundcrafts). I was interested in a solo midi but they're bigger and there was a 32 channel topaz project 8 with meter bridge for sale 30 minutes from my house so that's what happened.
The topaz is a first rate budget desk when you need high channel count and routing capabilities that fit in a shoebox control room. If I move into a bigger space I'm going to be looking at something 32:8 inline that's better constructed
Darn, I was hoping you'd know something about them...

Name: Steinberg Cubase 3.0
Image: https://exxosforum.co.uk/atari/mirror/tamw/qbmain.gif
It's a discontinued software (DAW) for Atari ST computers, released in 1992.
We've been trying to keep all the different DAW version #s consolidated, as it creates an issue when trying to use those entries for Artist submissions... as most Artists don't specify which version number in interviews, it's hard to tell what version of Live someone is using from a concert photo, etc.
I know the original Atari ST 3.0 release of Cubase is a rare MIDI-only beast of the early 90s with a hardware dongle, and it's rad that you have a copy, but for the good of the database, can you live with using the generalized Cubase entry?
https://equipboard.com/items/steinberg-cubase-11
The generalized entry is good enough for confirmed ST-users Mike Paradinas and Autechre... and maybe good enough for you too?

My soundtracs console came with a spiral bound manual and I seem to recall SSL manuals used to be spiral bound... certainly G series was, at least 1 of the manuals (there were several lol)
OG Soundtracs Topaz vs. Topaz Project 8, any opinions?
2yabout 2 years ago
what’s your favourite synth you own?
Square bound, definitely. I don't recall any other factory spiral bounds in my collection, other than the Nord... but I'm sure they didn't pioneer the practice. More importantly, the Micro Modular/Modular manual is one of the best I've ever read. It's a full class on synthesis, masquerading as a product manual.
2yabout 2 years ago
what’s your favourite synth you own?
Hardware synth: Roland JX-3P my review
Software synth: U-He Diva my review
Best hardware synth I ever purchased brand-new: Nord Micro Modular... the construction quality and the SPIRAL-BOUND manual were both industry high-points we may never see again. Great D/A converters too. I think the Nord Lead or one of its offspring would probably be more my speed these days, but I still have so much affection for Nord based on great experience buying and owning that little red Micro Modular.

Just FYI: for custom and 1-of-1 guitars that were never sold in stores, the moderators have been asked by the site owners to limit these entries. I have my own approach, here (there are a few different request and discussion about it on this linked page if you scroll down). You are free to do what you think is best, but, again, it's OK to ask questions, wait for a response, and THEN add the item once the user has shown some tenacity. Some new users ask for something like this, then never bother to return to the site, so the entry will just sit there unused forever.

Ah OK Thanks , OK only the Request and only Items can be identify , but there is an issure with that I think, because some old Items can not be identify anymore because of lost informations.
These sorts of challenges pop up all the time on Equipboard. When the same instrument from the same factory is sold under many different brand and model names, such as with many guitars made in Japan in the 60s and 70s, it can be a struggle to figure out which brands & model names are accurate. I often have to go back and look at factory catalogs from the era to figure out what is verifiably correct. If you don't enjoy that challenge, you don't have to take on that challenge. You can ignore the request and let someone else handle it, or you can ask the person requesting to do some more research and prove their case before anything is added. Most of the time people here are happy to chat about it and help with more research... or they won't even bother to respond because they didn't really care that much in the first place, which also fine.
So long as you only make ONE new entry, that entry's name, photo and details can always be changed later... I'm just asking that you don't make multiple guesses to the database. Zero guesses is best (wait until it's not a guess), but one guess is fixable. Multiple guesses, however, make the database worse.
Think of it this way: items that can't be accurately identified shouldn't be added to the database. It's always ok to ask more questions and be patient.
And I have a Question , there was request of an Item which had no catagory , it was MIDI Programmer for a MIDI Controller, but we have only the catagory of MIDI Controller , so I put it there, should I better not add things without a detailed catagory too ?
Categories can always be changed after the item is created, so it's totally fine. You did great on that MIDI Programmer request for NMM :)
Don't spend too much time worrying about categories for non-guitar items... there are many items which have no clear correct/good category on Equipboard. You can always ask me @pkennethk if you have any category questions, but you don't need to hold off on adding items over category concerns.
Yes I can delete my entries too.
You can? How?

Deskew Technologies released Gig Performer 5
Principal among the new features in Gig Performer 5 is GP Relayer, an exciting new plugin that provides the easiest way to share audio and MIDI between Gig Performer and your favorite DAW. Simply insert one or more of these plugins into your DAW and one or more into Gig Performer, and you’re ready to move audio and MIDI data back and forth seamlessly. You can directly record high-quality, low-latency audio from Gig Performer for your next album. Alternatively, stream your DAW’s proprietary plugins’ sounds and MIDI effects back into Gig Performer for an unparalleled live performance experience. GP Relayer supports up to 10 relays simultaneously.
The Wiring Activity view displays connections as color-coded virtual MIDI and audio wires when any note is played, helping you to quickly understand and correct your audio and MIDI flow and audio levels. Playing your instrument makes wires illuminate to visualize signal levels — “Green” indicates that your levels are OK, “Yellow” indicates that your levels are getting a little high, and “Red” means that your signal is running hot. Is a particular sound effect only coming out of one channel? Wiring Activity also reveals where the signal is broken so you can quickly and easily fix it.
Ideal for external gear integration and internal channel reconfiguration, the MIDI Rechannelizer is a powerhouse in flexible channel rerouting, enhancing your ability to manipulate and streamline MIDI flows. Using an intuitive grid-based interface, you can easily redirect MIDI signals to and from any channel or send multiple channels simultaneously. For example, playing your MIDI keyboard on MIDI channel 1 will send multiple copies of the MIDI message on four different channels to your external hardware and multi-timbral software synths.
MIDI Chord Maker lets you create complex chords using different sounds or block unwanted notes in a performance simply by playing a single key on your keyboard. For example, now you can simultaneously perform bass, strings and choir, each part using different chords in different inversions, all with one finger on one hand, thus freeing up your other hand to perform a dedicated piano part. Chord Maker features MIDI learn capabilities to speed up your workflow when you map notes to chords.
The Envelope Follower plugin lets you use audio volume to control envelope parameters in real-time—for example, wah-wah effects, which are particularly useful for guitarists. Or, if you wish to talk while playing music, Envelope Follower can produce MIDI messages that can control ducking, automatically lowering the music volume as you speak. Using widgets, you can use audio volume to virtually control any parameter within your setup.
Gig Performer’s Streaming Audio File Player has been enhanced with new Stretch and Transpose capabilities. It lets you flexibly and quickly tweak your audio tracks—speed them up, slow them down, or change the pitch—to fit any live performance or rehearsal scenario. These settings are stored and recalled as part of GP User presets, particularly useful when using backing tracks with a singer who requires a transposed song pitch.
The new Global Rackspace MIDI feature allows you to centralize your MIDI effects, key splits and transpositions in the Global Rackspace. Similar to how Global blocks have been used to send audio in Gig Performer 4, this new update allows you to send a stream of MIDI to and from the Global Rackspace as desired, streamlining your MIDI processing.
The MIDI Transposer plugin is a convenient, quick way to transpose note and polyphonic aftertouch messages as messages pass through the Wiring view. It is very useful for quickly changing the key of a MIDI sequence, and you can insert multiple Transposer plugins to create harmonic variations.
Song Part Actions allow you to define multiple actions to be triggered automatically whenever a song part is selected. Use this feature to send any MIDI messages to hardware, send OSC messages to remote devices for selecting videos or even invoke GP Script functions.

It's Hamer's version of a tele, made in USA from 1993 to 1996 (as far as I can tell).

Thanks! Funny, I was doing reviews to get to 500. 1. https://equipboard.com/pros/sebastian-danzig This is the better one. been a minute since I was as big a Palaye Royale fanboy but this is definitely the keeper. Seems like it has the items the other profile has anyway.
Thanks for the intel. I'll let the Admins know.
2. Yes, I own the pink one. It is correct that it is why I wanted it uploaded. Seeing that now I have 500 and can edit, I am just changing the gear to not specify it is the ice blue one, doing the color-agnostic deal you mentioned. Maybe I'm neurotic about my gear collection naming lol.
Congrats on crossin' over!
I'm obligated to tell you what the guidance is re: items that only differ by color, but I totally get wanting the color showing in your profile to match what you picked out IRL. If you decide to add a separate entry for your color, I won't stop you. That shell pink color is rad.
In terms of the Strandberg, thanks for adding. It is their "RESQ:D" series only sold direct, as they have some sort of wood defect and are painted solid almost like a cosmetic B-stock, but kind of merge specs from other lines. Even if I am the only who wants it on here so bad, It's still different, y'know?
I checked the website to see if it came in other colors, saw the writeup. It's a cool idea. Good range of colors too.

Howdy!
You're close to hitting 500 points, so I'd rather help you get to 500 so you can add items as you see fit. You've served your time here, you know the ropes.
Question 1: Do you know what's going on with the 2 different Sebastian Danzig profiles?
https://equipboard.com/pros/sebastian-danzig-krop https://equipboard.com/pros/sebastian-danzig
Which one is the keeper, in your opinion? I think the Admins can merge them... maybe.
Question 2: For the Harley Benton, I'm guessing you own that one, and you want it added because the person that added the Dullahan FT entry made it color-specific, and yours is pink and not blue, correct?
I added the Boden:
https://equipboard.com/items/strandberg-boden-resq-d-s8
Strange that Thomann carries like 60 different Boden models, but none from that line. I add it as color-agnostic, which is what we try to do here whenever possible. But the first pic will be the gold color you wanted, because you got there first.
