That being the case, it makes sense that you guys have held off. Every mismatch is a duplicate waiting to happen.

Apologies if this has been mentioned already: I'm a new user (only today I've started populating my board, which has been fun!) and I can't find a search feature for the forum. Anyway, I noticed that the product links to add new items only work for a selected few websites. Adding Thomann.de to that list would help, as it's the biggest music seller in Europe, and there's equipment I bought there that is not available on any of the existing websites. I'm sure many European users would benefit from that, and would be able to contribute more gear accordingly.

It has been mentioned many times, but it's worth repeating until we all know the reason why it isn't implemented yet. :D

I agree 100%; Thomann is so dominant in Europe. If I lived in the EU, I might feel a bit slighted to not see Thomann listed as an option, especially given the fact there isn't 100% overlap with the products Thomann offers vs. Sweetwater & GC in the states.

That said, I trust there is a good reason Thomann.de isn't supported yet.

My current guesses:

1. The specifics or structure of Thomann's affiliate program may not fit Equipboard's current business needs.

2. The way Equipboard aggregates pricing information may not be able to support euro-to-dollar conversion just yet.

3. If a product is only available in Europe, and can't also be found on Sweetwater, GC or Reverb, then the EB team may want the moderators to review the Add request before it gets added to the database. In theory, everyone here wants every piece of music gear ever made in the database, but there are many cases where it's better for the overall health of the database to not include every unique product SKU# ever.

E.g. it may not be in everyone's best interest (from a search & Artist analytics standpoint) to add yet another version of a product that already exists in the database, just because Thomann is offering a limited edition version in a red finish instead of the usual black.

Again, these are just guesses. But I encourage anyone who feels strongly about including Thomann.de to continue to speak up.

Regarding Middle Eastern food, there are some decent places here in Hungary. Of course though, it doesn't compare to the actual thing! My girlfriend (from Tunisia) just cooked me a huge array of traditional dishes from her country on New Year, and also taught me how to prepare them! It's pretty similar to Middle Eastern food, just with a lot more heat!

I noticed this wasn’t a option when adding musicians to the site. It would be cool to add educator to the list of rolls. There is a good subset of professional musicians who also run their own music education platform. jared Falk with drumeo is a good example of this

Sounds great - it's capable of very very brittle sounds, quite metallic but there's so many ways to tweak it. I like to use it for either harsh, dirty-clean sounds, or to add some fuzziness to the bass. It has a really interesting character where it can add fuzziness to the bass while still leaving the mids and highs quite clangy if that makes sense :)

I will say that the categories available here for software that isn't a DAW, a plugin synth, or a plugin effect are rather limited. There isn't even a way to denote whether something is for a mobile or desktop OS (or both, as is the case with your product). I know AbleSet is not a plugin, of course, but it is a utility, thus I put it in with the other Studio Utilities. As for how companion applications for DAW software generally get categorized here, I'd say it's 50/50: some choose to interpret "DAW software" to mean both "software that is a DAW" AND "software that works in conjunction with a DAW" and others choose the utilities category and interpret "plugin" in the more liberal sense. If you think neither is a good fit, please feel free to voice your opinion on the forum. I've certainly voiced mine in the past when it comes to categories. ;)

Knowing the historical limitations here, please feel free to place AbleSet in the available category you feel serves it best... I have no empirical, nor annecdotal evidence to suggest the categories here have any impact on item visibility/traffic. I suspect you're fine either way.

I've been thinking a lot lately about human recall and sense memory becoming obsolete in socio-economic contexts and what that bodes for a site like equipboard. We may need to change with the times. Chat GPT can probably tell the difference between a dbx160x and 160a but I doubt it can tell you which it prefers and why.

Go ahead and add one of the colors from Sweetwater. After it's added, go back and Edit it, remove the color for the title, so it can be used by anyone with this same model.

At the same time, you can swap out the photo for a nice pic of your exact color... it's your right, as the first person to add this model. Let everyone else kick sand about it being the wrong color in the Equipboard, lol.

...The Google Bard API can get this information without building a huge database with URLs per product on Equipboard. There will be other AIs that can do this too I am sure.

Are you suggesting the use of the Bard API to determine if a video someone is watching on YouTube, for example, has already been submitted to Equipboard, and if so, serving up what gear has been identified... or are you suggesting we wait a week or so until Bard and others can actually scan the image content of a video (sans caption information) and ID the gear itself they GPT 4 did with the pedal photo?

Getting back to what Michael is actually proposing, I think the information about which artists use a piece of gear is novel and interesting to me, but the aggregated pricing info for Amazon, Sweetwater, and Reverb feels less special, as it's something anyone could offer... but I understand why it needs to be included.

The reason users can't add discontinued products before they reach a score of 500 is that the site got hammered with tons of people adding very specific models... which is a problem for 2 reasons:

1. It complicates users who want to use this site to see "which artists use product x, vs. which artists use product y"... as the results are all branched and bifurcated into entries that differ only by model year and finish color.

2. The more gear entries we have that only have 1 or 2 users or artists associated with them, the further down the search rankings content from this site sinks. Search engines penalize sites with lots of "dead end" pages, apparently. I'm just an unpaid volunteer with no ownership stake, but I want to help these guys keep the lights on, as it's a nice chill community of passionate people.

So, this is me over-explaining why I'm not going to add a left-handed entry for a model we already have too many entries for. I have nothing against the lefties of the world. My father was a lefty. It's just a business decision I'm asked to help support.

Given the circumstances, how offensive is it for me to ask you to live with the right-hander entry?

I guess the reason I wanted a microtonal guitar was sort of inspired by my travels in North Africa and the Middle East, listening to the local music and street artists, I had bought an Arabic oud as I wanted to incorporate those elements into my music. But then I wanted to do the same but on electric as well.

I think when and where it could be used successfully would be the main thing for me.

Obviously, if I was viewing a webpage that mentions a product by name, such as a discussion thread about a specific product on redddit, a google search, an ecommerce results page, etc... then I could initiate the extension by clicking on a button somewhere or perhaps the extension could jump into action automatically if a high-confidence keyword is detected.

BUT... what I really want, is to be able to hover over a pedalboard image on /r/guitarpedals/ and be told exactly what the pedal is, and get the context info you sketched right there in the heat of my gear lust, when all the pedals are arranged in a lovely bouquet of knobs, cables, and screen-print art.

I believe the Red Sparkle was only available for a couple of years - seems Reverend likes to discontinue old and introduce new colors fairly frequently. I believe this model is currently only available in Black Sparkle and Gold Metal Flake, for example, and there used to be a Silver Sparkle version as well. I saw that you were able to add this model in black sparkle from Sweetwater, so I just generalized that entry to apply to all finishes. Additionally, I changed the image to match yours, so that it looks its best in your Equipboard profile.

The url will still say "black sparkle" for awhile (or maybe forever, IDK) but the actual name is generalized now.

I just watch the whole website and sadly they don't have a "standard" package. Good luck with Photoshop ;)

Looking closer, the strings sizes were usually right on the bone portion of the image, not in the black area, so I just hunted down some images from web shops that had gotten a hold of generalized images. I'm decent with photoshop, but not that decent... and ai-powered image backfill isn't quite that good yet (I tried, lol).

Feel free to change the images and/or add more details to each entry. Also, looks like someone already added entries for some of the custom sets.
