Allan Holdsworth's Guitars
Also played in the 80s by Allan Holdsworth his signature Charvel model
Allan used the Gibson SG Custom (Les Paul) quite extensively in the group Soft Machine back in the early 70s.
"These days, I typically use a Bill DeLap wood-bodied, headless guitar. I’m totally hooked on headless guitars. It’s hard for me to go back to a headstock and big body guitar. They don’t feel comfortable at all anymore. The DeLap is totally custom, but still all-Steinberger based. It has the Steinberger TransTrem and headpiece."
The guitar Allan used in the 80's his own signature model from Ibanez
"That would've been the guitar that I played in the Tony Williams days. The weird thing about that...I used to have two SGs, a white one and a black one, which was really rare. One of those SGs I had painted and it didn't come out right, it came out pink. And I was like, 'Oh, I can't play a pink guitar.' So I had the guy paint it blue. I had a number of SGs but the last SG I owned was sold by the woman who tour managed Tony Williams Lifetime...while I was out in the country. He didn't get paid so he took my guitar and sold it, and I couldn't get it back. There was nothing I could do about it. It was sold and was just hanging up there in the shop. And I was like, 'Jeez, I gotta buy my own guitar.' That was a blue SG with two pickups."
Here Allan talks with his relationship with Carvin and his featuring to create this new guitar.

"Emmett (Chapman) built me some custom Sticks that didn't have bass strings. There were two sets of strings, one tuned in 4ths and the other set in 5ths. It was like two guitars on one neck. He also loaned me a 3/4 size Stick that I wish I still had. I still own a regular size Stick with no bass strings. I like the instrument because of the string length. When yo do the tapping thing in the guitar the sound seems puny because the string is so short. I don't really play the Stick much anymore or acoustic guitar for that matter, after the Synthaxe entered the scene."
