About the recording process of "Fallen"
When it came to recording Lee's vocals at NRG, the group tested out three mics: the Telefunken Elam 251E, the AKG C-12 and the regular Neumann U47 tube mic. The U47 won.
“That one seemed to have the classic presence,” reports Fortman, the producer.. “It sounded really good on Amy's voice. I love having that type of luxury, where you can record something from each mic, have everybody sit down and take time to choose.”
Interview with Eddie Mapp, Front of House Engineer, for Evanescence.
For a band like Evanescence, vocals are everything. What’s your specific audio chain to make sure the vocals really have presence?
Lately I’ve been using the AE5400——which has been really helpful. [Amy Lee] has a lot of dynamics, and it captures them nicely.
Josh Swart, who mixes monitors for Evanescence, explains. "We’re using the 5400 capsule on Amy’s vocals, which gives us a studio-quality condenser microphone"
On tour, Evanescence uses A-T’s acclaimed AEW-5255 Artist Elite® 5000 Series UHF Wireless System, for powerful vocalist Amy Lee.
