As a composer, Stevens uses songwriting software like GarageBand. But whether it be software or a soft paint brush, the process of layering ideas, sounds or images is the same.

“I have all these ideas in my head and I layer them to find the perfect balance before teaching it to my band.”

Her songwriting process involves creating complex demos of the songs she’s written at home. She layers her guitar parts, all the vocals, some keyboards and perhaps percussion and then brings it to her band. In the band sessions, they try out different layers on the song.

Construction of the ukulele and a charango was finished on March 11, 2018, as documented in this Facebook post. The next day, Stevens mentioned going to pick up the ukulele in this Facebook post recommending the company. She posted again the day after that, anecdotally confirming the pickup.

Das verlangte doch nach einem Becca-Stevens Instrument. Jetzt wurden es zwei, eine Konzert Ukulele und ein Charango in gleicher Korpusform. Morgen, am Montag, den 12. März kommt Becca in unseren Laden, um ihre Instrumente abzuholen.

In the guitar acoustic interview, Stevens revealed that she originally looked into the construction of a ukulele-charango hybrd, but settled on two separate instruments. The resultant charango is the first made by the company.

Als ich zu Anfang mit Stevens in Kontakt war, gab es die Idee, einen Hybriden aus Uke und Charango zu bauen, um weniger Equipment zu transportieren. Das hat aber nicht zufriedenstellend funktioniert. Daher sind wir bei zwei Instrumenten geblieben. Ich fühle mich geehrt, dass sie mich als Inspiration für ein Instrument genommen haben, das sie noch nie gebaut haben: die 001 Charango. Das macht mich richtig glücklich.

I'm playing a McAllister acoustic guitar.

Stevens was gifted a Thalia capo by her father for her charango (as featured in this February 20, 2017 Instagram post), before ordering a custom guitar capo to celebrate Regina (as documented in this March 27, 2017 Instagram post). She has since become a featured artist on the Thalia Capos website and released a review of her guitar capo.

I adore my new Thalia Capo!!!! Thanks dad! King of useful gadgets. I've never been able find a Capo that works on my charango without buzzing until #thaliacapos These capos are beautifully made (mine is gold plated with Hawaiian Koa inlay), super easy to quickly move around the neck (like moving a bar chord!) and they offer interchangeable fret pads to match different fretboard radiuses so they don't throw the guitar out of tune!! On top of all this they sound amazing/don't dull the tone at all. The kit includes rubber and sliding teflon for the fret pads. I love the teflon option! Zu ihren tollsten Vorzügen gehört, dass ich sonst immer ein Clip-on-Mikro nutzen musste, was mir auf Grund der Feedback-Probleme Kopfschmerzen bereitet hat. Mittlerweile habe ich Mi-Si-Trio-Pickups verbaut. Sie sind außergewöhnlich gut verarbeitet und klingen sehr realistisch. Das ist einfach perfekt.

I recorded everything live on two Lauten Audio @lautenaudio microphones on a @taylorguitars 812ce with @thomastikinfeld flat wound acoustic strings. I eventually upgraded to a @uaudio Apollo interface but otherwise the set up stayed the same as what is pictured.
