Buzz Osborne (aka King Buzzo)'s Amplifiers

Buzz has used Sunn Beta Leads throughout the Melvins career. Buzz has talked about them in multiple Rig Rundowns and you can see one at 8:12 in the following video.

At 3:35 he says it's a hilbish design preamp

You can see a pair of JCM 800s behind Buzz, plugged into two Marshall cabs.

Buzz Osborne uses the Roland Cube 30 for home recording, as noted on The Melvins' gear page.

Buzz Osborne has consistently used a 1968 Marshall Cabinet throughout his career, as detailed on Themelvins' Gear Page.

4 hiwatt 4x12’s used by buzz for most of the 2000s and mid-late 90s. Three were sold on ebay in 2011.

loaded with 16 ohm celestion g12s-50’s to make a 4 ohm load for the beta leads

“Buzz (on GUITAR!) through two Super Twins. The band loved what they did for Buzz's guitar sound - to (approximately) quote the two (yes, TWO!) bassists "the bottom end was so much tighter and everything was just more together, all the good bits of the sound with the unwanted noise and mud removed, more clarity for those big dirty tones. Way better sound onstage." And I can confirm it sounded great from the front row (you could hear the cabs more than the PA there) right to the back of the venue. They'll be using the same Barefaced backline tonight at KOKO in London as Buzz refused to leave the Super Twins behind - his previous guitar 4x12"s have been officially usurped!“

Buzz can be seen with a Sunn Beta Lead combo amp at the Amoeba Records show on May 09, 2002.

“love my Marshall stack and my Mesa/Boogie TriAxis—but for my live tone, I can’t beat those Sunn heads”

Buzz Osborne occasionally uses the Marshall JCM 900 4500 guitar amplifier head. While the specific model he uses is uncertain, it is likely the dual reverb version. This is suggested by its distinct features, such as more knobs than the JCM 800 and a black footswitch next to the JCM logo. A user-uploaded photo on Equipboard provides visual evidence of this usage.

Find it on:

Buzz Osborne used Celestion G12S50 12" ceramic loudspeakers in his three HIWATT 4x12 cabinets, as evidenced by an image on Equipboard. I’m unsure if he selected them himself or if the hiwatts came with them.

Find it on:

buzz loves 15s and traditionally stuck with the EVM15L’s until somewhere around the late 2010s. now buzz uses eminence kappalite 15’s in his tyrant tone cabs.

buzz is also historically partial to TL606 design cabinets which are a electro-voice designed blueprint for a 15 cab. he has used both dietz and mesa/boogie variants of the tl606 which both run the EVM15L

it is very likely these are the 8 ohm versions which would properly come out to a 4 ohm load when played in pairs like he usually does.

Find it on:

Buzz has used a Gretsch 6161 amp from 1959 on many Melvin's records, I can confirm A senile Animal, nude with boots, and hostile ambient takeover. Note this does NOT mean this was his main amp on any of these recordings.

Find it on:

In a photo from a Gibson video, Buzz Osborne is visibly using a Mesa/Boogie Fillmore 50 Head.

Find it on:

At 39 seconds into the Premier Guitar video titled "4 Pedals, NO Tubes ... Monster Tone!", King Buzzo is seen using the Sunn PL-20 beta preamplifier, as demonstrated during a rig rundown with Perry Bean.
