buzz loves 15s and traditionally stuck with the EVM15L’s until somewhere around the late 2010s. now buzz uses eminence kappalite 15’s in his tyrant tone cabs.

buzz is also historically partial to TL606 design cabinets which are a electro-voice designed blueprint for a 15 cab. he has used both dietz and mesa/boogie variants of the tl606 which both run the EVM15L

it is very likely these are the 8 ohm versions which would properly come out to a 4 ohm load when played in pairs like he usually does.

Part of the two bass cabinets used on Why'd I Try, as is visible in this photo from this self-written October 5, 2010 SonicScoop article by bandmate Michael Kirsch. They are further specificied to be "1×15 Cabinets w/ EVM15-L Speaker" in this archive of the equipment list from Grandfather's official website. A May 23, 2009 forum post from the Electrical Audio wesbite by user Worcester reveals that the EVM-15Ls were 8 ohm, 400W originals.

Hi, everybody. I've been p.m.-ing with a some EA veterans about our favorite speaker, and found some information that might be of general interest. The matter isn't resolved, so please chime-in if you can offer any insight.

The original 400W EVM 15L Pro-Line is getting kinda hard to find, and the prices show it. I'm in the market for one now - building a TL606, natch - but all I've found is an NOS pair for $300 each, and a convincing used pair for $250 each. On the other hand, there are plenty of the used 200W (Series II) still circulating for $85-130 depending on the condition. Since the 400W re-cone kit is only $80-90, I wondered if I could bring the power-handling capacity of the Series II up to 400W just by re-coning, and save a few bucks, too.

According to this February 28, 2011 Blow the Scene interview with Kirsch, these cabinets were the only pieces of equipment used on Why'd I Try (besides the recording equipment) that did not belong to Grandfather, used only to substitute for Silverman's broken cabinet.

The only musical equipment we used from Electrical was their bass cabinets, as Jon (bassist) broke his speaker the week before our session. Every section of our record calls for an extremely specific and deliberate sound. We had everything dialed in before hand, and blueprinted. There was no need to use any external equipment.

Obviously, all of the recording equipment was exclusive to Electrical. They have some of the best in analog gear. Every piece of equipment in that studio has a specific purpose, and [producer] Steve [Albini] knows exactly how to use it.
