Chris DeGarmo's Guitars
In this mini-documentary press kit video on the Making of the Rage for Order album on YouTube, Chris is seen playing a white single humbucker Kramer Pacer Special with a maple fretboard at 2:34 into the video.
In the music video for the song Nightrider, Chris can be seen playing a modified black Gibson S-1. An article from a September 2004 issue of Guitar One magazine mentions that Chris has had this guitar since he was 13 years old. The middle single coil pickup was removed, and the remaining single coil pickups in the neck and bridge positions were replaced with two cream colored DiMarzio X2N pickups which can be seen at 0:40 into the video.
In a personal letter written by Chris DeGarmo about the guitar shown on the Juliens Auction website, Chris mentions the Kramer Voyager was used on The Warning album, Rage for Order album, and the Operation: Mindcrime music video. A photo of Chris holding the guitar shows the albums and tours it was used on written in white pen on the back, which verifies this information.
A timeline photo published on the official Queensrÿche Facebook page on August 26, 2020, showcases Chris DeGarmo using a Kramer Pacer Imperial guitar. This is corroborated by an article from Circus magazine, originally published in 1985, which states: "Chris DeGarmo has been playing guitar for seven years; his main influence is Jimmy Page. Like Wilton, he plays a Kramer guitar (a Pacer Imperial with a Floyd Rose tremolo), with Seymour Duncan pickups and Dean Markley 10-gauge strings, which he changes after every other show."
In the YouTube video titled "7. Take Hold of the Flame [Queensrÿche - Live in Tokyo 1984/08/05]" uploaded by Queensrÿche Bootlegs, Chris DeGarmo can be observed playing a Kramer Pacer Special at the 0:41 mark.
In the 'A Conversation' EPK (1986) video on YouTube, at the 2:35 mark, Chris DeGarmo can be seen playing a Kramer Baretta, distinguished by its white finish and maple fretboard. The guitar features the characteristic black 'hockey stick' (banana) headstock with a white block logo and a truss rod cover labeled 'Baretta,' identifying it as a late 1985 or early 1986 model before Kramer's transition to the pointy headstock design.
