Craig Adams
bass player for Sisters of Mercy/The Mission
Craig Adams' Gear
I got an Ibanez Roadster then. That got smashed as well – the body split down the middle. A bloke in Hull said ‘I’ll fix it for you’, so he glued it back together and bolted a big brass plate across the front of the thing to hold it together. That was basically the bass I used throughout the ‘Sisters’. We played the Albert Hall, and I played this £70 guitar! That was it and it was fine until I lost it. It disappeared and I do not know where it’s gone. I’ll know it as soon as I see it because of this great brass plate on the front. It was the heaviest guitar in the world!
With The Cult again I used an Ampeg set up with two SVT heads, two 15″ speakers on the bottom and two 8 x 10″‘s – it sounded great.
The Cult album we recorded with Bob Rock we used a Portaflex almost exclusively. That’s not too loud, but it sounds great.

Craig used a Westbury Track II in "Antique Walnut" finish as his first Sisters bass from 1981 to 1983
On the right of this image, you can see an HH V-S Musician 212 combo
This is the guitar amp that Craig used in the early days before using Trace Elliot and Ampeg amps
" Well, in the ‘Sisters’, at the beginning I used to use an H & H guitar combo with a fuzz box! "
Craig shortly used a Rickenbacker 4001 in 1984, it was rented for the recording of First and Last and Always and used live a handful of times, before he came back to his Ibanez
In this 1987 video of The Mission, Craig can be seen playing a Gibson RD Artist bass, visible by the headstock inlay
Craig Adams is seen here using a boss DS1 pedal.
Boss DS1 used live 1984-85.
