Dave Fielding
Dave Fielding's Gear
Dave Fielding initially used a Carlsbro Stingray Super Combo amp from the early/mid 70s, these amps have two channels one which has a built in Suzz circuit (a distortion overdrive) which was his main source of overdrive. They later removed the original grill from amp and custom painted the baffle (which can be seen in other photos/videos) as they did with most of their gear.
This same amp was later used by Reg Smithies as his main amp (along with an Ibanez Flanger) once Dave started using his Music Man HD212.
In this undated image, Fielding is pictured sitting with his Swinger. The Micro Frets website further states, "The Swinger is our solid body offering. Used extensively by Dave Fielding of the 80's post-punk band The Chameleons UK for a legendary atmospheric sound that inspired many guitarists from Manchester, England and beyond. "
For the most part of the Chameleons career Dave used a Roland RE-301, it can be seen on top of his amps in various videos and photos of the band Live. This unit had a built into Chorus circuit based around the CE-1 Chorus which Dave also used extensively. According to an interview on The Reegs website, Dave started with an RE-101, then used the 301 and eventually a 501 as well.
