Freddy Weller
Freddy Weller's Gear
Freddy Weller joined the Raiders just in time for their Ed Sullivan debut where they played a set of 4 songs. Throughout the whole performance, Freddy is seen playing the Gibson EDS-1275 Double Neck, finished in Tobacco burst. Freddy was new in the band, and in the performance, it seemed that he was not familiar with the choreography yet. But, this might be the only time we see Freddy with the Gibson EDS-1275, as there are no known performances that showcase Freddy with the guitar. The guitar is a possible tribute to Drake Levin's double-neck Mosrite, which he used in the song Kicks.
Freddy, judging by the performances during his time with the Raiders and after, is seen to be a big fan of the Fender Telecaster, and one Telecaster which he used extensively from late 1968 to his departure in the 70s, is the Fender Thinline Telecaster. His Fender Thinline Telecaster is in a natural finish, complete with the f-hole, and the standard Telecaster pickups. Some notable songs which he performed the Telecaster on are Let Me, Mr. Sun, Mr. Moon, and many more. It is unknown whether Freddy still owns this guitar or not, though it had seen a lot of tour dates.
In some performances, especially the mimed performances of both Mr. Sun Mr. Moon and Out on that Road, Freddy can be seen using a Gretsch Tennessean. The Tennessean that Freddy is playing is in an Orange finish and it seems that this guitar might just be a backup guitar, as Freddy most likely only played the guitar in this mimed performance. It is unknown whether or not Freddy kept the guitar and used it in future recordings.
In the performance for the track Him Or Me, Freddy is playing a Fender Telecaster in a White finish. This may be the starting point for Freddy to use the Telecaster. This white Telecaster would not make appearances anymore with the Raiders, as Freddy used either his Thinline Tele or his Gretsch Tennessean.
