He stopped playing it live because it was very heavy (around 12 pounds), but he still uses it in Nashville sessions restrung with the 4 lower strings of a five string set (tuned BEAD). This instrument has a maple neck and fingerboard and lacks the characteristic oval-shaped pickguard.
