Ian Curtis

Ian Curtis often played the VOX Phantom Special VI guitar. His trademark "metallic" sound came from its many built-in, battery powered effects.

This photo shows his playing a white model of the guitar. The headstock confirms it is specifically the Vox Phantom Special VI.

In the book "The Definitive of Joy Division", Curtis is stated to have played Bernard Sumner's Shergold Masquerader before he purchased his Vox Phantom IV.

I believe this was his guitar amp, the customs document lists a 10" and 12" version of the Yamaha G-100, knowing Curtis' lack of confidence in his guitar playing, and how loud the synths compared to his guitar in live recordings, I am assuming he took the 10"
