Max Michael Helyer
Max Michael Helyer's Guitars
Continuing this interview with Max Helyer, Max displays his second favourite: a Northern Super Swede. One of the elements he likes of the guitar is the balanced weight, how the guitar is set-up initially as well as the slim neck. His only regret is the pickups, yet he keeps with it.
Max's Gretsch Penguin is a custom shop version made by Steven Stein. What Max likes of this guitar is the heavy sound that fits well with the band's sound as well as the hollow-body "floating around the chamber".
Max's main guitar is a Deluxe Telecaster from 1977. Max uses it due its twangy sound and road-worn aesthetics. He uses this guitar for at least eleven songs. The set list can be seen at 1:51, where there are times where he uses different guitars for different tunings.
In the YouTube video "You Me At Six - Give (Acoustic in Amsterdam)," Max Michael Helyer can be seen playing a Fender Modern Player Telecaster Thinline Deluxe.
Max Helyer, one of two guitarists of the band You Me At Six, showcases his Gibson Memphis ES-335 in this interview by Total Guitar. Max had purchased this from the Sam Ash at Hollywood. He chose over one with a trem-bar. He likes this one for such features as the Lollartron pickups.
Max's other guitar is a Fender Jazzmaster with the tremolo replaced with that of the Fender Jaguar. He appreciated this guitar for the twangy sound which he wants to use more mainly because he is moving farther from his use of power chords.

According to guitar.com interview, Helyer uses a 2017 Custom-Shop Telecaster for You Me At Six's 2025 farewell tour.
It is a Fender Telecaster,” he admits, quoting his 2017 custom shop model as one that particularly changed the game for him on the VI tour. “I drifted from it and came back to it, around album five or six, and it’s just so diverse. It is a workhorse. Having an array of [Telecasters] that I know are all going to work on whatever tuning – they are the best of both [worlds] for heavy and clean.”
According to guitar.com interview, Helyer used a 1985 Gibson ES-335 for You Me at Six's farewell tour.
